IndianaBones So back when I had my 05 grand Cherokee, I got the great idea of taking it out to get dirty (yup I even took my grand Cherokee out...don't judge me. I never did trails, just bad roads, ya know?). Needless to say I got stuck (good thing I just stayed on bad roads). By this point it was dark and of course I was the only one there. Hiking out there is this little cemetery (I was in the Charles c deam wilderness just south of lake Monroe. Eastern most part of the park, Robertson cemetery). By the time I was passing this cemetery it was pitch dark. I noticed a small light dangling, moving in the wind over one of the grave stones. I stopped and watched, thinking I must be crazy. But by Joe, it was real. Freaked me out so much...let's just say I hiked an extra half mile or so to avoid walking by that cemetery. Got the GC out a little later that night.

That's right by one of my fav camping spots, so of course I was back within a week. Turns out it was just a solar light hanging above a tombstone. Someone's family member put it there. Still there today actually. Still tell that story by the campfire, just before we go on a night hike....right past the cemetery. Of course when I'm telling it fireside, I don't tell them what it is. Just that its a light in a cemetery in the middle of the wilderness.

Lusus_Naturae I used to talk in my sleep, and my wife says I still do sometimes. I also have had reoccurring dreams since I was a young child. When I fall into one of these dreams I realize at some point in the dream, that I'm dreaming, and then it's like deja vu because I know what going to happen next in the dream. At some point I get to where I woke up last in the dream, and I go a bit further than last time, and then I wake up again. I've had the same dream since 2nd grade over and over, maybe once every two years if that, but I remember it every time.

My daughter just turned 20 this year and was diagnosed with narcolepsy. I don't have enough insurance to run the same tests but from what we found out with her, I probably have it and so does my son. He's starting to get some testing going though. Now I wonder how often creepy things I hear or see (or think I see) is me in a dream-state or narcoleptic pattern. Spooky to me.

So after saying this, here's a bit of spookiness from over the years.

I like driving, and my friends and I used to drive in bad weather to get some scary kicks so my friend and I decided one foggy night to drive a bit into the country. We're still on paved roads, but they are mostly maintained by the land owners in the area, so there are some that have bridges that have been washed out, and the road just has a random sign in the middle stating the bridge is out ahead. During the day we often explored these areas, so we knew how some roads were set up - but still spooky at night in the fog. We were driving down one of these roads, getting close to the bridge out area, and we could see a log blocking the road with the sign on it. As we chuckled and were turning around I felt eyes on us though. In my head I'm seeing a old farmer with a hoe in his hand and blue overalls on, a straw hat, and thin frame. He's off on the edge of the fog shaking the hoe in our direction and mumbling. I see him for a brief moment and then he's gone, but my friend didn't see him at all.

In the same area I've had other feelings as I've driven through, mostly at night, and maybe it's my imagination too.

pie As a teenager, sleep paralysis was beyond frightening. Now as an adult, I know what it is and it is fun when I get it. I try to see how long I can make it last.

Irish-n-Zwack My youngest son sleep walks, talks in intelligible sentences and holds conversations, and paints or draws in his sleep, and he can often be found in his bed, sitting up, sound asleep. Uber creepy :-).. He got to where he would put up an easel with brushes, paints and pencils next to his bed, and see what he woke up to. Some seriously odd pix, sometimes! LOL! He used to post them on FB. Not sure how accurate this is nowadays, since he no longer lives at home, but a few years ago, when he came home to live for a year or so, it was certainly true. We always had to ask him what he remembered of any conversations we'd had with him from the night before. More than half of the time, it turns out he was talking to us while sleeping. I hope that boy never decides to take Ambien!

Ndamukong Stu Very interesting. I used to sleep walk in college. I'd go to sleep in one room and wake up in another. Some may contribute that to the beer haha but either way. It was strange.

you mean sleep paralysis? When we are asleep, the brain inhibits motor movement, or else we would be acting out our dreams. A number of motor-related behaviors can occur if they are not sufficiently inhibited, like sleepwalking and talking, even eating and sex. Conversely, we can also transition to consciousness while voluntary motor movement is still inhibited. As a result, we are aware, but cannot move. Many cultures have supernatural folklore related to this, such as the riding ghost, where people believe they are being held down by a ghost on their chest. Freaky as hell when it happens!

similar here, first time it happened to me, I was in grad school. Luckily, we covered sleep paralysis the following week in class. What a relief!

I'm not sure why someone would need money while camping in the woods but with wireless technology nowadays I guess they can install those things anywhere.

slo87 I'm just gonna lay this here......

2013 my cousin was here at my house watching the Bama/auburn game halftime rolled up and we all wanted rotel dip so he went to the store and got the fixings he didn't come back. We went down the road looking for him and found him at a wreck scene he found. 3 children and a mama dead. Not even a skidmark no other cars involved just them and an oak tree.

2015JK I camping in Joshua Tree National Park with about 8 other friends. We had a pretty good day hitting the trails and climbing boulders. Night time rolled around and we were cooking food, drinking a beer or two, and enjoying the pitch black night. Our camping area was pretty much empty and quiet, except for a couple of old people and someone taking exposure photos of the stars.

We had decided to venture out and explore the boulder areas in the pitch black night. All of us either had flash lights or head lamps. We split into two groups, one group of five in front, and the other group of four in back (which included me). We were separated by about 50 feet, and generally on the same trajectory outwards. As we were hiking outwards, someone in the group in front of us kept shining their headlamp back at us, and even going behind us and shining their headlamp. The headlamp was about 50' away, so we couldn't see who was doing it. I yelled to them about it, and asked what they were doing. At this point we were pretty close to a mile out, with absolutely no one around.

Turns out, it wasn't any of them messing with us. They thought that we were messing with them! We didn't believe them at first, but we grouped together as a whole, and the headlamp kept flashing at us. They were probably 50 to 100 feet away, and were moving all over the place pretty quickly. The flashes would happen every 30 or so seconds to every 2 minutes. The thing is, when we turned our lights off, we couldn't see much of anything. So for someone to be going around turning on and off their headlights, it would be pretty challenging. The speed they moved at would be about the speed I could move during daylight, but I couldn't have done it at night.

We started yelling at the person, threatening them, etc. The light kept flashing, all around us. We started making our way back, and by the time we got to the camp site, we got yelled at by long exposure camera guy, because we had ruined his photo. I looked down and noticed his shins were covered in fresh blood, like he had slipped on some of the boulders or something.

The whole thing was really strange, none of us think it could have been the camera guy, because it would have been difficult for him to get in front of us. None of the other people at the camping site had the physical capability to get out like we did. The whole situation was so weird and unexplained.

I decided one night to sleep in the family room.. we built a large room with an open beam celing as an add on.. 20x30 with two sliding glass doors on opposing sides. On this one night, I had the sliding glass doors open.. the screen doors shut, allowing the warm night air to fill the room. It was dead silent, hot night, the air was still and quiet.

I fell asleep...

Suddenly I was awakened about 2:00 AM by a strong gust of wind that blew through the room.

As I lifted my head from the pillow, I couldn't move my body.. I was paralyzed.

I tried to move my legs and arms.. but I couldn't move a muscle. It was like being tied down to the bed - all I could do is move my head back and forth and watch what was happening.

The strong breeze subsided and after a few minutes.. struggling and trying to move, I quietly fell back to sleep.

My sister thinks it was my grandfather visting again during troubled times.

She claims to have seen him in the house before as we grew up - my mom's dad died when she was 14. She thinks he comes and visits my mother to make sure she's safe.

As for me... I don't know what happened that one night.

.

You had sleep paralysis.

TJ Lyons Another one... My later to be husband and I were on a side road of an untraveled back road, next to log landing, outside of my hometown, in his old Toyota Corolla. Pretty much the middle of nowhere. When we backed in we hit something, but who cared. Probably just a log under the 8 inches of fresh wet snow. A couple of hours later, we were jarred awake by auto lights trying to shine through the additional 2 inches of snow on the glass. It backed out and turned off it's lights. Oh great, someone else checking to see if we were dead. Happened all of the time. At least this time it had to be someone we knew that was probably doing the same thing. When we didn't recognize the truck, there's never strangers around here, we decided to head out. But we had ran over whatever we hit and it was hung under one back wheel of the car. He got out and pushed while I drove back over it. He jumped in yelling "GO, GO, Go!" After he caught his breath he said "I just got a bad feeling. Something is wrong". The truck was spinning when we went out of sight. I just laughed it off. You could see that the people in the truck had shot guns, but so does almost everybody here. A month later when the snow thawed, a man's body was found in that road, behind a log. Shot in the head, and dumped there. He owned the shut down strip job we were parked on. He owned property all over the country and traveled from one to another so much that no one had realized he was missing for weeks and it was reported in his home state, not ours. So nobody knew anything about it. I had to ask, "is he what was hung under our tire?" "I don't know, the snow was wet and stuck to it, it could have been anything. I just thought we needed to get the hell out of there away from that truck." He shivered and went back to eating.

TJ Lyons Nothing crazy, but recent.
I decided to go for a ride on an old county road that I hadn't been on in a very long time. There's a split, one way is bad on good days, and my preference. Once you get up on the ridge it's good solid woods rocks that were placed in there an eternity ago and pretty much flat to rolling. It runs through some old family farms that have grown up. It was my brother's favorite place to hunt when we were kids. Edible wild plants, volunteers from past gardens, berries, grapes, pears, and nuts to eat until the main course shows up. It looks just like it did 10 or 15 years ago, not really much change in the last 40 years. When I made it through to the woods, I felt like I should get out and explore. I stopped where the road met back up with itself, just a few yards before I topped over the point. While listening to some turkeys coming up on my left I walked up the road in front of my Jeep. I wanted to check out the point, just a sharp hump on top of the ridge, but it always had a beautiful view. I was standing in the road, still in the woods, not a single leaf disturbed, with a daisy between my feet, 100's of feet in the air, on a dirt ledge jutting 10-15ft out from the face of a mountaintop removal high wall. Talk about a dead end road!

chucky cheese I think there is a law. If you come across something dead you must poke it with a stick. I have always done it. Some times the thing is not dead. I thought my uncle Ernie was dead.
He was lying on the ground with a cigaret butt in his mouth and an empty can of beer lying by his limp hand. I called to him and he did not move. So I poked him with a stick. He kinda mumbled, farted then opened his eyes and asked me if I was trying to kill him. I told him no. I thought he was already dead. But if he was dead I would have had the coolest show and tell thing brought in!
