WiDoWmAkEr I just replaced my rear main twice now and something is wrong with the crank. It will leak 4-5 drips after shutting off the engine leaving a nice puddle of oil on the floor. Too bad it's a two piece rear main otherwise I could have bought a sleeve for it. The shop I took it to said they could keep on replacing it but it won't help. I guess I will start to save for a new small block v8.

The Korean Uh ya I won't lie that was my first and last time for a "mudding" event... from now on it will be trail use, sand dunes (ya still along the lines of mudding), and daily driven.

Rear main seal area is still leaking and leaking a smidge faster now... back to the shop I go after work.

2002TJ If by 'wheeling' you mean reasonable trail use, then go for it.

However, 'mudding' it is a whole different animal. Myself, I ain't gonna get my bellhousing packed with abrasive/corrosive mud and have to constantly replace clutch/pressure plate/throwout/flywheel and wear out my rear main seal.

As far as the rear main seal, it all depends on just how badly grooved your crank is and the quality and fit of the new seal, plus if you have excessive main bearing clearances....I just helped a bud replace a 23 year old hardened rear main seal on his Cherokee...the crank was fine, so it should out last the rest of the engine.

Crackshaft "uh-oh" question on the I6

Jeep: 05 Wrangler Rubicon
Transmission: 6 speed manual
Mileage: 113,616
Lift Kit: None
Tires: 31" BFG M/T's
Times Off-roaded: Once (mud-bog 2 weeks ago)

Hey all! Just got my Jeep back from the repair shop and they did the following:

-New Rear Main Seal
-New Clutch
-New Pressure Plate
-New Throwout Bearing
-Resurfaced flywheel
-New Rear Brakes
-New Fan Clutch
-New Thermostat
-Coolant flush

I can't remember exactly what the shop guy said, but I'm pretty sure it was something along the lines of my crackshaft now has grooves in it from the rear main seal going out at the mud bog (mechanic was a prior mud bogger)... While they did say there's no leak and the oil pressure is holding at the present moment, they kinda have me a smidge worried about wheeling it again... so my question to you all is... how worried should I be with a slightly worn/grooved crackshaft when wheeling and daily driving it? Kinda just knock on wood and hope for the best?
