MoA definately look for a 4.0 I6.. even with 3.07 gears and 33s d30/35 my jeep did fine =p

only swapped to a d44 to go bigger in the future.. i didnt come close to breaking anything..

yjwrangler the d35 is a fine axle. don't beleive everything you hear about it, yes it is weak, but if your a sensible when your wheelin you will be fine, hell buy a junkyard d44 for like 120 bucks and put it in youself, a deal breaker is a 4 banger, stay the hell away from that mistake, 4.0 with any tranny, any tcase and ANY AXLES is what your lookin for. 4.0 4.0 4.0 4.0 4.0 4.0..
k umkay. d35 d20 d44 d60 d41 its all good just use caution, everything breaks, be smart and out wheel the guy with 38s and a ford 9in

MoA i felt weird wheeling 33s on a d35.. so i swapped a d44 in mine =D

if you can find a better deal on a jeep with the d35.. (around 2k or so) buy the one with the d35 and just swap in a d44

debruins you dont want the SE most likely b/c it is a 4cy and not the 6cyl
the D44 is a lot stronger if you want to ever put on bigger tires or a lift so id go with at least sport
the sahara will give you AC and a few interior things, but no big offroading or drivetrain change

id say get a sport and make sure it has the D44 in it

nicolas-eric if you dont´t want to go wheeling with bigger tires than 33s, a rear D35 is ok.

the diff covers look different.

The Dana 44 rear axle

Im looking to buy a 98 or 99 TJ. Ive been told to look for the Sports or Sahara's with the Dana 44 rear axle. Does anyone know what the major difference is? And if it should be a deal breaker if I can find a good SE model with the Dana 35 rear axle?
