Walkingstick Get 31 with aggressive tread.
Get some mean thick strong bumpers.
Mount some M240s
Lug spikes? Homemade bumper integrated flame thrower.

mikemounlio I have rims that stick out very far. I have never felt unstable in my jeep. I have changed the way i drive by about 10mph. I could pick that 10 back up and still not feel uneasy about corners. If you can go wider then do it ASAP.

Thanks. I know it will get there, but where I'm 6'3" and 300 lbs of solid sexy, its supposedly "really funny to see such a big guy get into a little jeep". And the sad part is, I agree. I wanna get it to at least where I can't see over it. Which is about 5". I'm looking at the zone 4.25 combo and 33x12.5 duratracs on level 8 trackers at the moment.

Thanks! I would, but I took it off to wash, and the great danes got ahold of it. So no more padding. The tires we just got in march, new at about $88 apiece for 4. So they're gonna be on it until I get my own $. I am looking for wheels.

But here's the list:

New smittybilt bumpers
29" wrangler a/t radials
Plastidipped grill + angry eyes
Plastidipped hood cowl
Plastidipped factory chrome rims. I dont hate chrome but I really disliked these.
Plastidipped antenna and trail rated badge Removed rollbar padding. Definitely makes it more rugged.
Plan to trim flares and 2" bb

Here's what I did:
*Front Stinger- $150 (craigslist)
*Rear bumper w/2" receiver- 150 (Ebay)
*Front/Rear D-Rings Painted Krylon Red- $20 D-rings/ $5 paint
*Steering Box, Radiator, Oil Pan, Tank Skids- around $300 (box and radiator were gifts)
*Air Vent Scoop (functional and cool looking)- $35
*Painted Headlight Bezels Black/Angry Eyes on headlights- $5 semigloss krylon can
*1.5" wheel spacers- $100
*2.5" RC lift- $100 used from a friend
*31x10.5 GY MTRs

I've done much more than that internally, but styling-wise, that has made it what it is.

Do you like the wheel spacers? Can you tell if the 3" difference makes it feel more stable/better stance? I don't need them but could probably see investing if they make the jeep sit wider and thereby more stable.
06-11-2013 11:48 AM
arcountryboy Looks can be deceiving. Does not have to look aggressive to be aggressive. Mine is simple, cheap, and works just fine for the 1, 2, 3, and a few 4 diamond trails I've been on.

2.5" lift, 31x10.5x15 tires on 15x8 rims. Trimmed flares, extended bumpstops, home built bumper, Engo winch, and Spartan front locker. Goes 90% of the places I want it to.

Playing with my son:

This is the only other pic I have of the way it's setup right now(minus the winch in this pic):

jeffro1965 Mine are 32 11.5 15 with 2 1/4 spacers. $80 well spent to get it up off the tires.

hdtwincam Here's mine with a 2" lift and 31's.
06-11-2013 03:36 AM
DavidW954 Here's mine pretty much as I bought it on 28" AT's

And now on 1.75" BB with 31" MTZ's. I bought new wheels as you can see but spacers will widen the stance and stop the 31's rubbing the control arms on full lock.

TheBestCoast 2" coil spacers $50 and 5 used 33" 12.5" 15" BFG AT/TA tires for $375. Craigslist find for 5 mickey thompson classic 2 for $375.

Hey I like mine with 30s

Tried 31 inch tires but made my 2in lift look like no lift.. 30 inch tires make it look higher plus better power and MPG

First and foremost...WELCOME and congrats on buying a Jeep!

I would:
-Take off the milk jugs on the front bumper (I'm doing this sometime soon)
-Take off the side step, with no lift its not really needed..
-If you get 31" tires you don't honestly need a lift but a 2"Budget boost would do the trick for a very reasonable price
-Then you could always trim the fenders to make your own flat fenders, done right it looks amazing, IMO.
-For the soft top I think the Rampage frameless looks pretty sick. If I'm not mistaken I think you can "transform" it into a safari top (one that covers the front and back seats I may be wrong though.)

Tools are always a good idea. I saw someone mention a fire extinguisher, thats a great investment.

I'm running the Rough Country 2.5" lift with Firestone Duratrac A/Ts. I would've gotten a more aggressive mud tire, but driving to school and home and what-not it would've been a waste of money.

It ended up being the rim that was out of round and not the tire... got a new rim and all is good now
I've got about 15k on them now with very minimal wear...

I've had them in snow, mud, rain and rain, and they have performed great. The road noise isn't bad either.

AZDBack I've read that frameless tops are more annoying taking up and down. My OEM top on my 06 LJ has already gotten hard, brittle, cracked, and so is in need of replacing. I want to take a risk on the Bestop Trektop, (like its looks and options), pricey so I'm looking for a price break. They seem to get a better rap than Rampage (would love some input there). I like the fastback look of the frameless and the elimination of the frame. I'm a newbie here so I'm looking for experienced input as well.
