Remove the front clip and you won't need to lift near as high to get it out. Before I built an A frame to pull engines I used a tree, and then later I used a tractor with a bucket to pull the engine.
I would think you could find a pretty inexpensive engine hoist on Craigslist. Use it, then re-sell it if you don't need to keep it!

|CJ-John||I second pulling the front sheet metal, How about renting a cherry picker? They've come way down in price maybe you can pick up a used one. as to walking you through it. take lots of pictures ask us lots of questions and you be fine!|

|div4gold||I had engines in and out of my old 1942 Jeep a number of times. Fortunately I had a big tree in the front yard. I'd pull the fenders and radiator/grill . Then I'd disconnect the drivelines and with a chain hoist tied to a big tree limb I'd pull out the whole works at once. Once it was out in the open I'd take off the transfer case and transmission and lower the engine into my pickup or whatever. I had a flathead in it originally the later a 'F' head. With the transmission and transfer case off 2 guys could move it on the ground but it was too heavy to lift by hand.|

CJ2-A Engine Removal
Can somebody walk me through or point me to a walk through of how to remove an engine from a CJ-2A. How much do these things weigh? Thanks so much for the help!
