flowerfistandbestialwail Spotted a huge black wrangler today that made my TJ with 33s and a 4" lift look TINY. Waved, and was so stoked to see that the driver (who waved back) was a rather well maintained older looking lady! The kind who'd probably get pegged as a mall crawler if her rig hadn't had such massive tires. Was awesome to see

gburkett He stopped me in traffic and said "you didn't do anything. Can you pull in somewhere we can take jeep." The wife nearly lost it laughing. Talked for at least 30miniutes.

That must have been nerve wracking. I got let off with a warning once because the officer had the same yj as me, he said it was the same color and all. Considering mine is Aqua Pearl that was quite the stroke of luck lol

Gord P Even better than a wave...I had a guy in a Ram speed up to catch me yesterday while I was driving around the city. It seems he found it important to let me know that he liked my Jeep. Gotta say, the effort made me feel pretty good.

Fun sized Some days I wave at another Jeep and it's driver doesn't return my wave. Do I know his/her reason? No..nor do I care. My whole world is shattered from the rejection I feel and I immediately hide under my bed with a pint of Ben & Jerry's until I can face the world again. Oh, the Agony!

But I dont. Might get shot.
Lol - my husband (shares weekend Jeep custody) will occasionally flip the wave to a bird when a jeep passes sans wave - they are long gone by that time but it always cracks me up! He's just not nice but he IS the one that taught me to wave (he had a YJ back in '98).

flowerfistandbestialwail I wave at least 95% of the time whether I initiate or not. I'm excited to be driving my jeep so I pick all the other jeeps on the road out without even really trying. I don't consider it very exclusive or judgmental to just not wave at the people who pretty clearly don't care. If they happen to wave then great, I'd return it, but I've never once received a wave from a driver I've assessed as not being a Jeeper. Gotten lots of returns from people who seem confused like they don't know about the wave yet, but that's a different story and not at all who I'm referring to

Cherilyn I'm in Melbourne Beach, FL for the weekend and everyone here enthusiastically waves!
It's a nice change from the gulf side of Florida where I live.

Don't care, it happens. I'm talking about the drivers who are clearly engaged in their surroundings (not spacing out) and look at other jeeps like they're any other vehicle on the road. They clearly don't get it, and I'm not going to give them a wave of acknowledgement because they very obviously don't share that spirit. It's pretty clear the difference between and very difficult to confuse distracted drivers and drivers who just don't care that they drive a jeep.
You're reading into me. I'm not taking it personally. I just find that this community gets really judgmental, when is always thought the Jeep community was supposed to be open and warm and accepting.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm not paying enough attention to the other driver of a Jeep to know whether they are engaged or distracted. Maybe I just need to wear my glasses when I'm driving.

The only point I'm trying to make is... Who cares if they get it or are part of the culture or not. You really don't know. Maybe they want to be, but weren't informed about the wave. Just wave and more people may end up inclined to join in.

Making excuses to ignore another Jeep, whatever it is, is just alienating people for no real reason, especially since it really doesn't take much effort to lift some fingers off a steering wheel. It takes more effort to decide if they're going to wave back and are "worthy" of acknowledging,

It's rarely just a *quick* glance. If we're headed opposite directions I can see a jeep quite a ways off more often than not. I think being "unable" to respond to a friendly gesture is kind of a crap excuse. Lots of times I've gotten grins or quick nods from other folks who couldn't or didn't want to take their hands off the wheel. It's not so much about the wave itself as it is the spirit of it, and I think lots of folks just aren't interested in making the effort with people who seem very clearly to not get the spirit of jeeping. And that seems fair to me. Waving isn't mandatory, it's something we do cause we're excited to see folks who clearly share our interest and acknowledge that. So with that in mind it really doesn't make any sense that we would wave to people who clearly don't - like the folks who look straight at you and look at you like any other vehicle on the road and not recognizing you as another jeep.
