Fly2crawl Just bought my 2012 Unlimited Altitude build May 3, 2012 last month with 19,800 miles on it. It now has 21,100 miles on it and had the check engine light for misfire. It was #6 and the left head is now being replaced by the dealer. They were familiar with the problem and now I just have to wait for the backordered head. Dealer has been great about the whole thing so far.

SunDozer I have had a slight ticking since it was brand new, build date 10/27/11. My CEL just went on at 10,700 and I got a P0304 code which is a cylinder # 4 misfire. I have a call into the dealer for service. I called Chrysler Customer care in regards to getting a loaner car, and have been assured I can have one if the repairs take more than a day. I am just waiting to see if my dealer has the parts in stock. I saw someone post that they had their head replacement done in 4 hours, I hope I am that lucky!

caveatesq My CEL light came on yesterday and car is showing P0304 fault code. 9,300 miles and December 2011 build date. Bringing it in to the dealer on Monday - assuming we survive Nemo here is Connecticut.

blondiemachine guess I'm a little behind here but I have noticed a fairly loud ticking in the drivers side of my 2012 JKU> it currently has 11,500 Km. bought it in March of this year manufacture date was Feb 12 /12

Much too early in my opinion. It can take up to 12K to 15K miles for the problem to show up and in some cases even longer. Not many 2013 owners would have that many miles on their Jeeps yet.

I was thinking about starting another poll on the 2012 JKs and asking people not to vote unless they had at least 15K miles on their Jeeps. It would be a simple yes or no poll with the question being "Has your 2012 JK had a confirmed head problem?"

I'm getting very nervous. I don't have a problem as far as I know, but I only have a couple thousand miles on my engine.

I will have a category for those who have the ticking but have had no CEL indications and who have not had the problem confirmed. I will also have a category for those who definitely have a problem that has been confirmed at the dealership service department.

Kobrah66 I have a 2012 Arctic it has 2000 miles on it and a 11-11 build date, it does have a tick in the area of the left front but it is intermittent, does anybody know if the tick can come and go or should i be chasing another problem.

The dealer drove it and of course it didnt make a peep, he didnt deny though that have changed a few heads out...his quote was dont worry you have
plenty of warranty left

ShoreWrangler Well I'm at 7K miles and I just started noticing the "tick" a couple weeks ago

So far no other symptoms. Drives fine, no check engine lights

Am I to assume Chrysler won't do anything until you get a check engine light and an associated error code? Is it possible to have the ticking sound but not have it ever turn into anything worse than that?

The sound itself doesn't really bother me and if not for this forum I wouldn't even know that it was indicative of a problem. But now I am worried.....

-as for trading in your OlllllllO.. that's your decision. one i will not make as also my daily driver; to each their own.

here's the sitch.. twenty or so percent of wrangler pentastars are failing. Chrysler is aware of the issue and has implemented a more robust design [obviously then a known issue] YES this will be a royal bitch when it happens.. in the end, it will get fixed. no matter how heavy the ball and chain.

i have a feeling our jeeps will be on the road for many many years to come
Thanks. I didn't think I was being a troll either. Sure didn't mean to be one anyway.

I think the forum has benefited from Tom's presents. I, and I'll bet others, don't appreciate you guys harassing him to get him to leave. If you don't like Tom's posts, don't read them, or put him on your ignore list.

I love my jeeps as much as anybody here, and I hope that this issue gets sorted for those affected.

For those who aren't affected, good for you. But this is getting pointless.

The back and forth on this a huge waste of energy and time as well as being childish. There is a problem with "some" 3.6 motors and that is FACT. There are also "lots" of them without problems, also a FACT. Stop acting like fan boys.

Not sure what a fan boy is, Cruise, but I am through posting on this issue.

I guess my skin is too thin. I'm not used to having my motives questioned or being called a troll. You and a couple other guys have publcly and privately supported my efforts to quantify the head problem and I thank you guys for that.

I'll just be a lurker from now on as far as the head issue. I can see how I am viewed as an outsider after trading-in my JK so maybe others beside rtguy and Ballandchain resent my posting too. I meant no harm.

Regardless of what anyone may think, I truly hope the head thing gets resolved to everyone's satisfaction. I hope Chrysler and Jeep come out OK when all is said and done and I hope every JK owner ends up with a reliable engine.

Cruise missile The scores are 123 non-ticking to 91 ticking/repaired in this poll.

Folks thats 57% non-ticking and 43% ticking/repaired.

I know there are all sorts of variables when polling on an open forum so these numbers aren't 100% accurate. But, of those who are here, 43% have/or had the problem.

43% isn't paronoia, it's a real problem. Those of you who don't believe may put your heads back in the sand. ( you can't hear the ticking from there )

Tomster I guess the smart thing to do would be to stop trying to explain things to you, B&C, but I'll try one more time and then I'm done.

I owned a Jeep for 11 years. I had her fixed up pretty good for the trail. She was locked front and back and was running on 33" Duratrac's when I sold her. I had just about quit off roading and I sold her last winter. She was NOT a daily driver, just a toy.

I later regretted not having a Jeep and bought a 2012 JK. I could not afford a new Jeep unless it was also my daily driver. After owning the JK for a while, I found that the things I knew I would have to give up in order to have a Jeep as a daily driver were more important to me than I thought they would be. I made a mistake.

That does not mean that I am anti-Jeep. I was truly amazed by how the JK rode and handled and by the power and gas mileage of that 3.6 Pentastar. The interior was way nicer than the interior of my 2001 TJ. The 2012 JK is undoubtedly the best Jeep ever made and it is a shame that some folks are having the head problem.

What's wrong with trying to find out what percentage of the JKs have the problem? If very few, then that's great and showing publicly that there are very few should be a good thing, right? If the problem is very widespread, then that should be known too.

Do you still own a Jeep? Yes. Have I called you out? No. I'm directing my comments to Tomster. He doesn't even own a Jeep so he should just move on and let us people who actually own Jeeps have our own community. I don't see nothing wrong with bringing it to the light of day, but that is a problem for us current owners to deal with. Not some old disgruntled former owner who realized after 11 years of driving a TJ that it wasn't a good daily driver for him and also wanted to get rid of it before a problem arised.
