|dvdlpzus||I bought my 1999 Sahara 4.0L for $7500 after looking diligently for a long time. I bought mine with 111k in excellent condition. It belonged to a fantastic elderly women who would maintenance the Jeep rigorously. It was never off-roaded and all it needs is a lift kit. Inspect the Jeep thoroughly and make sure it is not stolen. Good luck in your purchase.|

|hardstuff||i paid 6000 for my 97 tj sahara with 118000 miles. It already had the 6 inch skyjacker rock ready lift kit and 35x12.5 BFG's on it. buy a jeep that you are not worried about denting.|

|cherokee980||5K for that...if it's not a scam...BUY IT NOW!!!|

|4.0l sahara||my 99 cost me about 9k and it has 100k and no major rust and around here that is a good deal.|

|njatrtljp||Im down in Boone, NC and I only have the soft top. Use it all winter and that and the heater keep me plenty warm. Just some food for thought since we do get some decent snow and cold up in the mountains.|

Depending on how your winters are you might want to consider keeping the hardtop and going with a windshield header, topless bikini and tonnau cover setup. Without soft top hardware you can lay you surfboard across your windshield frame and rollbars and strap secure it that way.

|debruins||that look slike a very clean jeep, id get it and sell the hard top and buy a soft top, just know ull sell the hard top for $800 and for a new soft top with ALLL the hardware ur looking at about $900, b/c u need to get some of the hardware form the dealer if u want new, if u want used u can get the whole soft top for about $250 most likely|

|Unlimited||That looks like a nice Jeep, but I'd be skeptical. Out here in Cali, a 2001 Sahara with less than 100k miles would sell in the $10k - $12k range. $5,000 for one looks like a scam or perhaps something with a salvage title.|

|jherrin215||I think that is a real good deal on that jeep. You can definitely get a soft top for it. You could probably sell that hard top and get plenty to buy everything you need for the soft top.|

Well...i found a pretty nice looking 2001 Sahara for a relitivly good price and looks to be in good shape. It has around 98k miles which is a bit high but 5k for a 2001 Sahara seems like an EXCELLENT deal. Ill continue looking around but this seems like a pretty good deal. The only downfall is that i would rather has a soft top but i believe i can change them out correct?

|RedRaptor||Ha ha i do and dont. I drive an old 99 Explorer and it gets about 12 MPG and it would be nice to have something better, but anything SEVERLY less would NOT be acceptable. Thats why im thinking about going with the manual again. Gas is VERY important but im more concerned with how it runs and having fun with it then about how much i need to invest in depending on gas.|
|06-14-2008 03:55 PM|
|4.0l sahara||Also i assume you don't care much about the MPG it gets?|

|RedRaptor||I hate to play the Wrangler Idiot but what does each (TJ, YJ, and JK) stand for? And yes i think something from the 97-06 would be about right. Again i think something after the 2000's would be suit me well.|
|06-14-2008 03:52 PM|
|4.0l sahara||You want a tj right? That is 1997 to 2006. If thats what you want they only came in 4wd all models. The yj from 1987 to 1995 also was only 4wd. The jk from 2007 to present can be bought in a 2wd version.|
|06-14-2008 03:30 PM|
|RedRaptor||I do plan on taking it off road once in a while (Mainly beach stuff) but in the end i would like for it to be a good daily driver. Aswell as it have a soft top (Gotta have that instant convertable thing going). I actually live in Central-ish Virginia but try and get to the beach as much as possible. And if I didnt say this, i DEFINATLY want the 4 wheel drive tranny.|
|06-14-2008 03:11 PM|
|4.0l sahara||Also where do you live? depending on where you live check for rust.|
|06-14-2008 03:08 PM|
|4.0l sahara||btw welcome!|
|06-14-2008 03:08 PM|
|4.0l sahara||All years are great but I think 1998 and up are best if it will be a dd you can find a really nice 1998 or 1999 and up thats just as nice as the 2000 to 2006 tj's. Will it be offroad? The wrangler se is the base with the 2.5l. The x is the base with the 4.0l but the x came out in the later years of production. Then there is the sport then the sahara with matching fender flares and some other stuss then comes the the rubi that comes with dana 44's front and back has air lockers and a 4:1 low range np241 t case. There all good. I would look for one with the 4.0l. Also theres nothing wrong with getting one with 100k pluss miles as long as it was well maintained they last pretty long.|

Brand new and thinking on getting a Jeep
Hello All. This is my first post so bare with me (As im not great on the rules). Anyway im brand new to buying cars and Jeeps in general so i would like ask a few questions. First i want to introduce myself. Im a 19 year old college student whose favroite car is the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. But Im a big beach bum and just enjoy surfing and being outdoors, and thats why im thinking on a Wrangler. They seem to be great, rugged, fun car to drive but again i have a few questions, so here they are.
1) it would be better to get a slightly older one or a newer one (2000 or older) for just a few extra thousand?
2)I Know there are several different varities of Wrangler (Rubican, Sahara ect.) What is the differences between these and the standard Wrangler, and is it worth the money to buy one of these?
3) Is the Standard Manual overly better then the Automatic, or vice versa? I personally would like to get the manual (Much more fun to drive ). Again i just want to get the best bang for my buck.
Thanks in advance and if there is anything else that would be good to know, please mention it. Thanks a lot guys!
