Weld or fabricate one

I couldn't track one down for my Jeep and finding one in a wrecking yard seems like a million to one chance. I took a shot at welding mine back together and adding a reinforcement piece of steel across it. Luckily all the two pieces were still there. My first weld EVER, so be kind!

Terris Thanks for the help folks! It totally makes sense that the bracket would be for the exhaust. I'm thinking that a new system was put in but they weren't able to get everything to fit like the original since there's actually about 4 inches between the flange and where the bracket would connect. Right now it actually sits right under the cat.

Anyhow, I'll look around for a replacement and see what I can work. Thanks again!

Hiapo I cant tell from the pic, but is the rubber bushing gone? The one coming of the skidplate. There should be a rubber bushing with a slight u shape through it, right there for the exhaust to mount to.

In any case, if you have a welder make a bracket for it. If not bring it to an exhaust shop they should be able to fab something up fairly easy for you..

0III0forlife Looks extremely clean in there...lol. That bracket that you have listed as "prize", is the first rubber mounted exhaust bracket in the system.

It should be mounted to your exhaust where that 4 bolt flange is between the head pipe and the catalytic converter. The 2 inner bolts go thru this mount and into that 4 bolt flange in the picture.

Seems from your pic that the exhaust has had some work done to it (i can tell cause the flange usually doesn't have flat washers on either side of it from the factory), so maybe the PO didnt bother to put that bracket back onto the flange?

If the bracket is actually broke, the only place i have been able to find a replacement is from the dealer.

Exhaust Rattle and Broken... (mount?). With pics

Hi Folks,

It took me 28 years but I finally have the Jeep I've always wanted. I took my time to finde the best deal I could find, I had it thoroughly checked out and got the green light. Whoever had this thing loved it it so much I almost feel bad.

Anyhow, I've found the one thing that bugs me - a chatter after about 10 minutes of driving: a chatter under the cab. I found the source (thank God it's not the tranny) where an exhaust bracket (I think) and the heat shield meet. Take a look at this nice feature:

Whatever it is it's broken but that's what's chattering against the exhaust and heat shield (I assume once it's hot and flexed). So, what is that and how might I fix it. Need to know more? Just let me know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Super excited to be a part of this community and I hope my post will help someone else in the future too.

Thanks!

Terris
