So I would guess go with the Mopar oil filter, part MO-744? Any particular 5w30 oil to use?
I am coming up to 3000 miles and want to knock this out, may as well do it myself

Man you guys are great! This forum is loaded with such friendly people its unreal! I Love my Jeep. I might hold off on getting new tires and such for a while because its soo new and ive never had a new car so i wanna keep it spotless for a while lol...I know thats not exactly what i bought a jeep for but man i dont wanna hurt my new baby! lol i think im going to do the interior/sound/lighting first then worry about the suspension/lift/tires and wheels. But seriously thank you all so much. Please friend me so i can get to know some people. Im in the Navy but i love to travel and maybe i can meet some of yall on the road or off the road! |Ltblue||When I first started reading the forums, I couldn't understand half of what anybody was talking about.. 4.88's, back spacing, soundbar, etc. but gradually just reading bit by bit you'll start understanding a little more. Start with what you would like to do to your jeep, do you want bigger tires? Do you want a loud muffler? Would you want to add a suspension lift to make your taller and better for offroading? Things like that and search for them in the forums or google. Have a nice day|

Welcome to the club! I used to wrench a lot with my Dad, first with him on his cars/trucks, then on my first car. Nothing too crazy: oil, brakes, plugs/wires, etc.
But since that first car (twenty years ago), I hadn't bothered doing any self-maintenance on any vehicle... until we bought our '09 JKUX. It basically begged me to maintain it
I've only done the oil a few times, and plan on changing the diff fluids over the summer. When it's time for brakes though, I'll probably do those as well in addition to anything else that's reasonable for a driveway mechanic to tackle.
Like others have said, there is a lot of help here, so feel free to tap into those resources. I'm sure you'll find the answer to almost any issue you encounter.
Pretty soon, you'll be offering advice to the proud new owner of a 2013 Jeep who comes in looking for help.
In the meantime, enjoy the new Jeep. They aren't for everyone (like the person who traded the one I bought after less than a year/10,000 miles), but if you're a Jeep person, it's really like nothing else.

|Matador||I'll agree with everyone else and also suggest to start with an oil change. It will get your comfortable working on your jeep and give you a basic understanding of where things are located on the engine. Don't be afraid to crawl under your jeep and look at things. Get yourself comfortable with the mechanics of the suspension and steering. Pull a wheel off and take a look at the brakes and just examine. Looking things over won't damage anything on the jeep and it will allow you to get comfortable with the possibility of working on it yourself. One final note, if you plan on doing your own oil changes make sure to keep your receipts for the oil and the filter, as well as a log with the date and mileage. It will be critical if you ever need any warranty work down the line. Also, remember that the Jeep community is among the best and there are a lot of extremely knowledgable guys on this forum that are always willing to help you out so don't be afraid to ask anything, there are no dumb questions.|

I'm in the same boat.. until last weekend, the most advanced auto thing I've done is change the oil. Once the mod bug hits, learning how to do it yourself will save you some cash (to use for more mods) and teach you a bit how things work.
I installed some JKS Quicker Disconnects and a leveling kit last weekend and just asked a ton of questions here. Everyone was more than helpful and I got all the answers I needed. Now I have a much better understanding how how the suspension, sway bar etc. work. Cool stuff actually. Can't wait to go wheeling and disconnect the swaybar.

|schirmyver||X2 on starting with changing your own oil. It is very simple on the 3.6L and a good starting point to build from. Work from there and you'll be changing your own brakes and installing mods in no time.|

Hang around the forum for a while and I think you'll be surprised at how quickly you pick stuff up. There are a lot of guys/gals around here who are experts on this stuff. Respect what they tell you, take their advice and you'll be working on your own Jeep in no time!!!

Do It yourself!
I have a new jeep and want to get into becoming my own jeep mechanic so to speak.. I'm really new to this and have no background in the field.. Where do i start???
