The Korean For the Jeepers that haven't seen these little fellas, here's what we are talking about when it comes to fish flies and lights (notice the massive pile on the ground)... glad I bought the Trail Cover (coworker in front of me bought one for his JKU as well) and yes this is my "usual" parking spot (parking is tight on base and some of us have to parallel park unless you want to park off base up the street).

I think it was my second summer here during fish fly season that i made the mistake of walking in the tall grass during an inspection of the fire works and barge during that New Baltimore featival... first and last time I did that. My uniform was cover by the time I got back to the government vehicle lol.

Lil Red JK I am from Pittsburgh and just last week during a Pirate game , they were swarming, it was nasty! We do call them May flies (thank goodness they only live for 24 hours to mate then die!) The locoal news said that if they are around that it means that the water sources are clean.....although I still would not swim in the Monongahela, Allegheny or Ohio rivers!

Maybe the Asian Carp are eating them up.

I'm wondering if they'll stay longer since we had no snow/ice this winter...?

Thanks for your input all. For now the doors and top are staying on, but that's only because of the current forecast and the soft top is forming since it's new haha.

sevenservices there isn't any way to keep them out... just have to close up the jeep for the few days that they are swarming. I'll never forget crusin' new balimore and drifting on fish flys with my ol' mustang. My GF from Bad Axe (now wife) couldn't believe you can slide around on 'em. But, yeah, there are that many!!!

Fireaxe I've only seen them around St Clair shores area....never seen them in Au sable river, upper lake Huron, or anywhere on lake Michigan.

But, they do exist and suck.....

phittie1100 They were EVERYWHERE last weekend up at Clear Lake near Atlanta. Bathroom sinks at the state park were full of them every morning. But never had any accumulate in my topless Jeep while we were there.

I live about 25 miles from Lake Michigan (in S.W. MI.) and 2 miles from our local resort lake and have never encountered these. Spent alot of my youth at the big lake and have friends who live on the small lake and have never encountered these.... a local or regional thing maybe? I have seen a few horse flies around our local lake about the size of a B-52.......

Question for you Michigan Doorless/Topless Jeepers... Fish Flies = FML

How do you keep the fish flies out or to a minimum? I was at a buddies place for a potluck/bonfire this evening and when I got into leave these fellas wanted a free ride... I have a cover, but only use it at night after I'm done driving for the night or if I'm parking it and the weather is going to be a smidge stormy. So what do you all do?
