mark2215 Like others have said, call Dirk@DPG he'll ask you tons of questions and you can tell him if you want a firmer or softer ride. OME has many choices of springs to adjust the ride to your particular jeep setup and driving style. It is pricey but you'll be done with it and not wishing you chose something else.

Procomp steering stabilizer $40 from local 4Wheel parts.
Rancho Adjustable 9000 shocks off craigslist $200.(These gave me the option to firm or soften my ride to my liking. Currently set at 5.)

Count me in the group not too impress with Hydro 7000 shocks. A little too bouncy for my taste. Have a set for sale that has less than 2000 miles on them.

B.B. call Dirk!! I have the ultimate OME kit from DPG with HD OME rear springs and it rides and drives perfect in every fashion. It is pricey, but it removes the roll-of-the-dice syndrome of trying other cheaper (less expensive) combos.

I think the folks here will generally agree, he takes out the guess work, but you pay for that!

Arch Stanton Great write up on comparing the two lifts! How do you think a TJ would ride with OME shocks and BDS springs?

2" LIFT ALTERNATIVES AND SELECTION

LOL, I too was originally looking at OME when I was shopping around for a short suspension lift. OME is the top notch quality suspension company for lifts > 3”. I was fortunate to have my brother-in-law purchase the lift before I did – that way I could have a nice preview of things to come. The installation was straight forward and there were additional components (i.e. JKS motor mount lift and quick disconnects) as the kit was purchased from Dirk@DPG. After installation we took the Jeep out on a test drive, while my brother-in-law appreciated the ride, I was not a fan. Don’t get me wrong, the OME rode very smooth and plush – much more, compared to the stock suspension, but it wasn’t for me. I enjoy a much sportier ride and I do like the way our Jeeps drive off the factory floor. To me, the OME suspension felt “boaty” at times, especially around corners. However I will admit, over potholes and bumps and ruts, the OME felt very nice, much better compared to stock.

Cost was also a factor; I didn’t have the funds to spend to get the same kit that my brother-in-law purchased from Dirk. I continued to do more research and came upon a company called BDS. For the most part, the company is well known for their, “you break it, we replace it” small print warranty . I did not come across any negative reviews on BDS and at the time I did have enough to purchase the lift – so I did. After installation, I took the Jeep out for a test drive and drove over the same route that was driven when the OME lift was tested. The BDS ride definitely felt more responsive and firmer compared to the OME ride. Over the same potholes and bumps and ruts, the BDS ride was not as smooth as the OME ride but was quite better compared to stock. Is BDS better than OME? I think like anything else, it’s a matter of preference. I prefer a sportier ride so I prefer BDS over OME. From a price and quality perspective, I definitely like BDS.

DRIVING INTERPRETATION

My Jeep is my daily driver and with the BDS suspension, it is a pleasure to commute. My kidneys don’t complain and the Jeep “drives” like a Jeep IMO. The Jeep’s suspension feels very controlled and in sync. I would definitely purchase BDS again for a lift < 3”. Off the road and on the trails, the BDS suspension shines in performance. Articulation and flex travel are outstanding, the 5500 BDS shocks are perfectly tuned for a short wheelbase Jeep – no complaints here . I highly recommend BDS for those looking for a 2” suspension lift.[/QUOTE]

Arch Stanton A BDS 2" lift is $400. Ask IslandTJ about his personal experience with a BDS lift.

Stahlone Thanks for the help! I've got to buy a new set of tires first, but the lift will hopefully come soon afterward

TLATEOTW calling dirk is a great idea, i have the OME kit installed and i upgraded my tires to 32x11.5r15 with no rubbing issues.

ride quality is great onroad and offroad, you will not regret it.

also, if some day you need to go bigger, you just add a 1.25" BL and you're ready for 33s and the jeep will still handle greatly onroad. that way you will not lose the invested money in this lift.

IslandTJ Call Dirk at DPG, he is popular OME vendor and is quite helpful.

I would also research BDS, I run their 2" lift and I am very satisfied with it on and off the road.

2" OME Lift

I've been looking into putting a lift on my 04 Sahara for a little while now. I've decided I don't want to go any bigger than 2" and have been looking at going with OME. Any opinions on OME and their lift kits? What I should include in the lift? Better kits? Looking for everyone's opinion and any pictures that may help. Thanks!
