the.hatter Advanced Auto Parts didn't have a pickle fork, so I ended up buying a 4" gear puller tool from them which has 2 hooks and a threaded shaft to push on the end of the bolt - worked great!

Finished the job last night and happy to report that the noise is gone! One item off the checklist lol.

Neil F. To get the tapered end out some have used a hammer. I could not bang mine out. A pivkle fork and a length of pipe and it came out with a BANG.

the.hatter Thanks that's definitely what it is .. disconnected the drivers one and the noise disappears. Need a pickle fork to get it off though?

x2

My sway bar links are shot, and my jeep makes the same noise. I am just waiting till I figure out what suspension I am going to install before I replace them.

Front end clunking (?) when pushing down on front, driver's fender

Hey folks,

I've got a 2003 Wrangler, that I bought last Saturday .. and of course several days later I start hearing a suspension clunking noise

I had my wife videotape it (admittedly not the best video or audio quality, she used my smartphone) while I pushed down on the front, driver's fender. It's like a clunking type noise, and can be heard here:

2003 Jeep Wrangler Sahara - front end suspension noise when pushing on fender = ?? - YouTube

I'm a fairly competent DIY mechanic, but am completely new to Wranglers so I'm not sure where to start, and thought you would be a great resource to give me a hand diagnosing it. I can supply pictures if that helps!

What else ... dealer did an inspection and changed the front sway bar bushings. While driving, the noise is only noticeable when braking or going over bumps at slow speeds (10 mph or so). The feeling is tight, and steering isn't loose at all.

Thanks!
