The Nightmare is finally over
Thursday 5/31 - Dealer calls me in a panic mode - I need you and your wife to come in and sign some papers on the corvette. Me - "We aren't signing anything until I have a jeep"
Friday 6/1 - I go into the dealership first thing Friday morning and decided turn on my pocket recorder before walking into the dealership. I get the sales manager to admit he sold my corvette without a power of attorney signed. After a heated discussion all being taped I pulled out my recorder and showed it to him and he freaked out. He handed me my entire file and said " get out of my dealership, I will have your corvette delivered to your house within two hours.
Saturday 6/2 - I told the wife I am totally frustrated over this whole thing but lets drive to Carolina Chrysler in Lugoff,SC and look at a JKUR they had. I said if we cant buy a jeep TODAY then maybe the timing just isnt right for us.
I am the proud owner of a 2012 JKUR - had 11 miles on it now it has 325!!!!
I LOVE IT!!!!!
Being a former two time jeep owner I know the jeep is just the starter kit - now is time for all the add-ons

|joe buell||I cant believe they would sell your vette before you sighned the paper work I would have my vette or my trade money or ask them if they could spell LAWYER haha good luck guy Joe.|

|Ricky-2012JKU||Man that sucks. if what many of you are saying about 2012's getting hard to find. That explains why people are paying the prices they are for used jeeps. Shortage on new ones are driving up used Rubicon prices.|
|06-01-2012 11:26 AM|
Why would you give them your trade-in before getting your new vehicle. I't not your problem if their buyer wants it now. You work your transanctions to suit yourself, not them.
Get the money for the vette or get the vette back.

|oliver_jeep||I agree that sucks, I was in a similar problem before. I had the option to switch dealers but I couldn't refuse the tax savings so we made it work. Tax savings on 25k or so is a lot of money to just walk away from.|

|elovell||I'm in the same boat as you. I actually signed the papers on a Jeep, but when my dealer went to pick it up the other dealership had already sold it. There was 1 other Jeep that arrived at the same alternate dealership. My dealer never went to pick it up. Now, it's not showing in their inventory & when I do a search on Jeep even outside of 200 miles I can't find one configured the way that I had. The good news is that when I signed the original paperwork, they gave me a loaner until they delivered the new Jeep. I'm wondering what happens with the finance paperwork that has the VIN of a Jeep that I never received. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out. Maybe I can rack up thousands of miles without making payments on the loaner Jeep & they'll get me a 2013 at the same price. (probably wishful thinking lol)|

|cosmos||If they took the Vette but can't produce a Jeep, you didn't trade it in you just sold them a Vette. Get the money and look for a dealer that has what you want. I've bought cars over the phone before after finding what I want online. You can still haggle with them, then go pick it up.|
|05-31-2012 05:25 PM|
Call the dealer with the Rubi you want, buy it through them and have it delivered.
Or go pick it up.
Not that hard to do.
|05-31-2012 04:42 PM|
Only question I have on that is I thought you had to have a VON or VIN for the 1-800 number. I don't have either. Will the dealership have the VON, or is that something I am supposed to receive in an email?

I went through hell to get my JKR. Went to three different local dealers to try and get them to do a trade on one that was being delivered to D.C. The dealership in D.C. wanted nothing any dealer had for the JKR since it was, at the time, a hard to get crush fully loaded. Got fed up, called the dealer in D.C. and put a down payment on it over the phone. Drove the 400 miles there to get it the next weekend.
Long story short is that dealers rarely will do a trade for a Rubicon. Especially with a short supply of the one you want.

Call the 1-800 jeep number and they can tell you on the phone.

I just bought a JKU last week - spec'd out what I was looking for on Edmunds, and sent it out "for quotes".
All I got back was email from dealers more than willing to sell me a Jeep - but no details on a "specific" jeep.
I searched all of the dealers in the area, and only found *one* 6sp JKU anywhere.
Talked to a local dealer on the phone, said they're rare outside factory orders. Didn't mention anything on ordering a '12 (I assumed orders already stopped), and unfortunately, couldn't wait for '13 production - orders starting in a few weeks.

Congratulations on your new Jeep® purchase! We received your order and thank you for choosing the Jeep brand. This is the first of three email updates designed to keep you informed as your vehicle moves through production....(etc.)"
I have not received any other emails as of yet nor any phone calls from the dealer telling me that Chrysler has cancelled production. Can anyone pin this down with accuracy?

Maybe I missed it, but just to be sure, the Vette is already gone, right? Like, papers signed? If not, you know what to do.

|Posts On Percocet||They dealer already made out on you with the sale of the Vette. They should be busting their ass to get you your Jeep. Sounds like typical dealer BS to me. Find a way to motivate them.|

However, going out of 200 miles will become not that practical to do a dealer trade, or you have to arrange the transport of the Jeep or yourself to drive it back.
I don't see a problem if you not to trade your Vette with that dealer and wait to find right one or order a 2013. The loan doesn't mean anything until you sign it and you can get a loan again when you found the right one again.

I hope you have better luck soon, but sadly as others are telling you, supply definitely seems to be quite short right now on Wranglers. Pretty sure selling your vette before you took ownership of your new Jeep is illegal though.
I bought my 2012 a few weeks ago and the dealer still has my truck waiting on Power of Attorney's to arrive in the mail from Kuwait where hubby is deployed. They aren't allowed to sell it yet.
|05-29-2012 05:58 PM|
Dealer trades on Wranglers are tough right now as inventory is short...we won't send a Jeep out on Dealer trade w/out getting something identical in return.
I understand your frustration...I'm sure Pat w/ Fields will agree with me that Wranglers are tough when talking dealer trades.
24S packages are in short supply right now and some dealers are completely out of them...

This quote isn't true " It's two separate transaction", when you trade a vehicle in it is one transaction. However negotiating with a trade in and financing is three separate " Negotiations".
First : negotiate price of new vehicle
Second : negotiate the value of your trade
Third: negotiate your loan if your are financing through them.

|khende||I bought my 2009 Liberty during the height of Chryslers bankruptcy. Because Chrysler had almost suspended production of vehicles during this period the Liberty I wanted, trail rated, tow package and the parttime 4 wheel drive, was very hard to comeby. I went to my credit union and used their buying service. I would find the vehicle in a dealers inventory and the buyer would go to buy it. After a three or four trys in a couple of days he was able to buy the car. I was from a dealership over four hundred miles away.|

Have been told that Jeep cancelled the May orders and only shipped partial April orders.
Many dealers are expected to run out of Wranglers before the 2013 Wranglers arrive.
As such have been told that most dealers are not willing to trade and want to keep desirable Jeeps.
It appears that Fiat/Jeep does not want to discount the 2012 models.
Dealer needs to make it right.

|SeaLawyer||That sucks, man. I just traded my '09 Z06 in for one that was on the lot that was ALMOST exactly what I wanted. I had another dealer trying to lure me with a promise of intercepting one EXACTLY like I wanted that was en route from Jeep to a different dealer, but was worried that something similar might happen as it did with you.|

|afd660||I see you're not the only one having trouble with a dealership. lol... I'd ask for the money from the vette since they cant uphold their end of the deal. Or give you a loaner Jeep with no cost to you until they can get the Jeep you wanted. Tell them that they have put you in a tough situation with only 1 vehicle in the house because your spouse or girlfriend uses a vehicle.|
