whiteyj That coax assembly has the antenna connector on one end and the SO-239 connector for the radio on the other. You should be good to go.

trolloc I now have the antenna, the radio, and the mount. I ran the dc power cables thru the firewall, but now need to figure out where the radio is going to go.

As per our other thread, I'm debating getting that overhead security console. I also see what you mean about needing a connector for that mount. It came with a connector for a Firestik, but guess that wont help in this application.

If i get that Comet cable with the N-type of connector, is that all that i need to hook up the antenna to the radio? Or will I need some kind of barrel connector or something else?

(sorry if Im beating this antenna connection thing over the head, as I believe you probally already answered my question, but just making sure).

Thanks again,

Trolloc

whiteyj The coax cable length really depends on where you're mounting the radio. I run from that raised mount down to the tailgate and then to the right fender well (under the carpet). From there it's up the roll bar (under the padding) out to my Tuffy overhead console. My dual bander sits in the lockable overhead console. Console runs between the windshield frame (attaches at the footman loop screws) to the roll bar cross bar.

The hole in the mount needed to be enlarged to accept the connector on the one end of the coax wherethe anntenna screws in (It will be obvious from the instruction sheets).

Ok, I checked it on HRO. Looks like its 12 ft. long. I'm guessing that is long enough, or would suggest getting a longer one?

And it sounds like your saying I will need to hog out the hole of the bracket to accept the connection between the antenna and the connector?

Glad were discussing this now, cause its not to late to order one right away!

enjoy.
I did get that mounting bracket off ebay linked above. But you mean I need something else to mount the antenna to the bracket?

Thanks Whiteyj,

I ordered that antenna after checking out its great reviews. I also ordered a Kenwood TM-271A. Looks like the radio and antenna will be has early as tomorrow, turns oiut there shipping from less than 100 miles away.

The mount could be a different story, but I got that too off ebay. So, I got my next project lined up.

While thinking about it, do you have any wiring, mounting or any other tips or tricks for me.....please let me know!!

Thanks for the quick reply!

I think I'm looking at the same mount on ebay, it fastens to the tire carrier and has a steel pipe on the right hand side that raises the antenna...it comes equipped with a connector as well.

I'll check out that antenna, even if it is a dual-bander it should still work fine for just 2m. I was thinking about getting a dual-band radio btw, but I have a dual HT and the activity around here on that band is limited.

Thanks for the suggestion,

2m antenna

Ok, I need a good 2m antenna for my jeep. Been reading stuff all day and i can't figure out what to get.

I plan on using a mount for either behing the left, rear tailight....or a mount that will fasten to the spare tire carrier.

Anyway, I would like suggestions on what the best quality antenna I should get, the radio will be putting out 75w, and it would be a shame to waste it on an antenna that cant get it done.

I thought i wanted a firestik, but after reading reviews on eham and some other sites, Im back to square 1.

Thanks in advance,

Trolloc
