agriesemer by the time you put all the money in adapters and time tryin to make it fit you could have just found a 304 amc or rebuilt yours if it didnt put a rod through the block.

mrbigjeep you will probably most definitely need new motor mounts and you can check out advance adapters for the adapter for the tranny/transfercase

It would probably easier to find an amc v8 to swap in if there is nothing wrong with the rest of the driveline.

Some things that need to be considered when doing an engine swap (crossbreeding) in a jeep. (1) Will the motor mounts work or do I have to weld in some custom units? (2) Will the tranny cross member work with the desired tranny? If not, who can build me a new one? (3) Does anybody make an adapter that will work with my desired tranny/ transfercase combo?

Engine swaps can become costly when you are not using a setup that is, or was, a factory application.

I have a 79 CJ-7 which I blew the engine in. My nieghbor has a 74 dodge with a 318 and allison automatic tranny in it. Does anybody know how hard it would be to swap in the engine and tranny from the dodge. .
