If you replace it and don't perform a 'Fogmod' or other modification to it, the potential for failure still exists.

My 2005 falls in the date of mfg that includes the ODPA problem.
It is my understanding that the problem is not the gears, but the lack of lubrication to the ODPA shaft. With the lack of lubrication the shaft tends to seize up and that is what destroys the gear.
My question is:
If I replace the ODPA assembly (unit) will this fix the problem or will the new one have the same problem at some time?
