emarlowe39 i call shananigans on the Wrangler rating, granted i have a Rokmen front bumper. But i have been hit once head on while i was doing 38mph, and the other driver doing 20-25mph and i lost a fog light and thats it, here yota camry was trasheddddd

also been hit on the side by a kid blowing a stop sign at about 30 and had no issues. told the insurance the axles were bent and i got a set of Ten factory axles from Northridge4x4 courtesy of the other driver

i did lose my center cap for my wheel tho, that was the worst. i had just painted the "jeep" engraved part black

Agreed, I nearly got T-boned a couple weeks ago while on my Goldwing when a guy ran a red light. I'd have felt safer in my TJ.

HK_Runner Good to know. It isn't fair to compare it to a Subaru or any "full" vehicle that focuses on safety, has fixed doors, B pillars, etc. They could improve it but the Wrangler sells so well and buyers do not complain about it, so why would Chrysler care!

I think it is rear and side impact hits above a certain mph (maybe 45) that could be worse than if you were in a Subaru or Volvo or another SUV. This is why I need a Hemi...so I can floor it and get out of the way.

Whobeme A little over a year ago I got hit by a State tandem dump truck with a front and side plow fully loaded with salt. It did just under $12,000 damage to my Jeep. I suffered a lot of bruising, a concussion, and cracked ribs. I also drive a truck simular to the one that hit me for my city job and have seen the damage done to cars when they are hit. I'll keep my unsafe Jeep.

Not to be THAT GUY, but I walked away from being t boned by a fire truck (doing between 35 and 45 mph) in my old Subaru Impreza (ya long story about that one). Apparently the guy upstairs was watching out for me. Walked away with a bloodly nose from the steering wheel airbag and a scrapped knuckle.

JeepinDad I own the second most dangerous according to this article. Our Colorado is more comfortable than the Jeep but I guess the Jeep is safer. Oh well, you only live once.

Wrangler_Man11 A vehicle is only as dangerous as the person driving it. I feel just as safe in my heep with the top and doors off as I feel in my F-150.

KittyPrawn I feel safer in my Jeep than in my Pontiac G5. If I got hit in the side by an SUV or pick-up, that bumper is coming through my window and into my face.

mcdull I guess the journalist couldn't think of anything to write about.

The co-relationship between safety and sales number made by the author is really dumb. The sales figures have nothing to do with the safety rating but the life cycle. It usually, if not always, sells best the first year or 2 and gradually decreases because of competitons and less interest until a mid-term refreshes and upgrades.

IMO, it's better to see if sales figure have been getting lowered for used car when the new cars are now much safer.
