dalearyous you can turn HSA off in the dash if you have the EVIC (connectivity package)

Drock1979 My first jeep was a manual and I miss it some but once I hit the rocks I remember how much better an auto is for everything but deep mud.

xzy This is what I did. It took me a few tries before I got it right.

To turn off Hill Start Assist:

*Engine off, auto in P. Manual in N, clutch out, parking brake on, wheels straight.

*Start engine.
*Engine running, brake applied, clutch out, rotate steering wheel 180º counterclockwise from center (and leave it there).
*Press ESC OFF switch 4 times within 20 seconds.
*Rotate steering wheel 360º clockwise.
*Turn ignition switch OFF, then ON.
*If done properly, the “ESC Activation/Malfunction light” will blink several times to show that HSA is off.
*Steps above must be completed within 90 seconds to turn off HSA. To turn back on, repeat steps 1-7.

I LOVE the 6 speed in my '13 but I HATE the HSA. How do you disable it. HSA on a Jeep is like having the gutter bumpers on a bowling lane.

angelo This shouldn't even be a debatable issue.

NEVER regret getting a manual in a Jeep..

Are you guys serious?!

firebrick Automatics in jeeps were the worst thing in the world! Until I got one in my new JK! Love it!

xzy Love my 6 speed. Wouldn't ever trade it for an auto.

Also disabled HSA. Much better that way.

Ditto. I drove the manual but it just wasn't the same.

I can't say that I have that problem, either. However, the port does seem to be lower than one would expect. I wanted to install my Ultra Gauge on my OBD II port, but the connector for the gauge probably would get in the way.

cnhmatthews I opted for the 6-speed also. For me it's just a different experience. I feel more connected when I have to shift gears. It took me a while to learn not to keep my hand on the shifter while driving though. A couple big pot holes and bruises from the shifter smacking my hand and from the impact and I'm all set now. I learned to drive in a stick (driving in a right hand drive car - shifting with the left hand) and it comes back instantly. I do have to be a little careful when I drive my wife's car though, as I've hit her brake pedal a few times when coming to a stop and trying to depress her "clutch".

If I were driving my Jeep only to get from point A to point B, I would probably get an auto. I love having a manual and wouldn't want it any other way.

michiganadam I notice no one accepted my trade offer. I guess that manual isnt so bad after all?

I forgot to mention this story. Im a trucker. 90% of all big rigs are manual. 10 to 18 speeds. I have an automatic.

GIVE ME MY CLUTCH PEDAL BACK!

Supposed to be getting another truck this month....

How come no one wants to have manual advance/retard anymore?

Oh and i had a girlfriend who thought they didnt make manual transmission cars anymore. Wtf.....

06SilverSport Had the auto in my 08 Jk. Now have the 6-speed in my Tj. Glad I changed.

noobified I've had 3 sports cars that were only available in manual. I'm happy I'm in an automatic now.
04-09-2013 10:25 PM
Kevinva I always had an automatic until just recently when I bought my first Wrangler and even though I don't have the manual down quite yet, I still enjoy it more than an automatic. You are more in control of the vehicle with a manual.
04-09-2013 10:21 PM
JKWrangler2012 The manual is numb, clunky, fussy, and vocal. Although i wouldn't trade for an auto. Ever. Love it.
04-09-2013 10:01 PM
gorillahydrographics I learned to drive in a 71 GTO which was a stick. My first couple of trucks where a manual.

Later in years my mom bought a jeep eliminator that was manual.

The last ten years all my vehicles have been automatic.

I just bought a 2013 2 door wrangler which is auto.

Lazy ? Maybe...I have done my time with manual trannies I guess .

Tball No regrets what so ever! Like others have said there seem to be very few who actually know how to drive stick. I love mine

Chug Just got the new jk with the 6 speed a week ago. Love it. Got it home and all 3 boys took it for a long test drive when I got it home. 20 and 18 year old have standards in their cars and had no trouble getting use to this one. 16 year old did pretty good also. Would not change it for an auto.

anglerdawg Manual 6 speed and love it

Yes

6 speed manual is my daily driver. I love it and would rather have it than an automatic...

Only negative is reverse(in high gear). You really have to slip or for longer roads let out and just use the brake to slow down(it wont die on you). Only regret for me is the 3.21 ratio on the sport, its worth the upgrade.... definitely will be changing that at some point...

Back to business... Yeah the stick wobbles a bit but its a jeep. If you don't know how to drive a stick its among the harder to learn on(I DID). Probably 15% of people around where I live drive manuals so if your in one of those areas you will automatically be better than 85% of people!

All in all: GET the 6 speed, you know you want it!
04-09-2013 08:24 PM
Tippittrg I drive my 6speed for a living. Spend about half my day behind the wheel. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
04-09-2013 08:24 PM
Flipper There are two vehicles in this world that should have manual transmissions. Corvettes and Jeeps.
I've had mine for 2 week now and LOVE it although a deeper axle gear is in the list of things to do because of the 33's I had to have. It does take some getting used to finding 6th gear but that is just a learning curve. I got mine so when I do tow I can have compression braking when I'm overloaded (don't judge me-I'm sensitive )
