OK, OK. I posted it in Silver just for you.

(Btw, still waiting for you to post a picture of your JKU under the Wrangler Lane street sign off the old route 9 a bit west of the VA hospital.)

radtype I went from a JK to a JKU last year and I am happy. I miss the tight turning radius and no one wanting to ride in the back seats of the JK. I do like the extra room in the JKU. The only reason I changed was my daughter and grand kids moved in with us.
I used the opportunity to buy upgrades that I thought I didn't need when I bought the JK.

RKracing My wife had a 2010 2 door Flame red Rubicon.
I had a 2011 JKU flame red Rubicon.
Now we have ....
My wife has a 2013 2 door commando green Rubicon.
I have a 2013 JKU deep cherry red Rubicon.

My wife loves how her 2 door is "zippy" for city driving and what not.
I do too.
We both love the JKU for any kind of a longer drive...30 miles or more.
My JKU does go off road more than hers, it's just more comfortable, plain and simple.

2resa I don't know if this is accurate but a friend told me that dealers try to get rid of inventory late November to avoid having to pay taxes for vehicles still on lot. Maybe you could sell-by-owner your jeep (may be able to recoup more of what you put into it then going to a dealer for trade in) and then work on a good deal for a JKU. If you have kids, JKU is definitely the way to go.

HRR1 I'm waiting to hear what happened . Did the trade get done? There was more fighting than what oil is best and how often to change it. Who would have thought it?
11-03-2012 08:43 AM
HK_Runner Not to take away from the 4-doors- they are practical for those who have kids. I'd hate to be putting kids or people in that excuse of a back seat. It's even worse if that is your only vehicle. The 2-door Jeep is the only Jeep for me.

Since I have none of these problems/limitations (I have another 4x4- my 4Runner) the JK is far easier to drive and safer than the JKU on the tight trails we have here. That's basically its primary advantage for me. I'm not a Chrysler fan, so am not a loyalist.

Buy what works for you- not what others think is cool. I'd be happy with an old 4Runner, a Defender, FJ, etc. - anything reliable that gets me safely through the trails and mining roads I frequent.

I'd take that Olds Vista Cruiser over ANY Wrangler, period.

I wish I'd bought a two-door. Had I bought a two-door, I'd own a real Jeep instead of a glorified minivan.

Interesting thing was that I was initially upside down when I bought the Sport as I rolled 2k in negative from the prior vehicle and added some additional service packages at purchase; however was able to get it all back at trade because dealers love pushing the new '12s, but they were seriously hurting for well-taken-care used. Talked with my sales guy the other day in a follow up and he said mine is the only manual they have in used stock. By the time I was done I ended up with a JKU Rubicon and lower payments! Strictly my opinion but if you can find a good deal, it doesn't pinch your coin then "no time like the present".

Headed for trails this weekend and next

I don't think there's anything wrong with the JK. I don't think there's everything right with the JKU, either. I just feel like people talk about the JKU as if it is the biggest vehicle they have ever driven.
Had to pick up some stuff at the dealership today so I decided to park next to a 2dr Rubicon while I was there. Compared to the 2dr it appeared to dwarf it in size but in reality, it didn't. I think a lot has to do with the aesthetics, starting with the tire size. The 2dr Sports looked far larger than the 2dr Rubicons with their base wheels even though they're the same sized vehicle. Putting larger wheels on the 4dr would certainly make it look shorter than the standards.

Nobody's faulting the guy for being more comfortable with the 2dr model, but he cries like the JKU is bigger than his Ford Expedion is. I find it perplexing he didn't cry about how that one was so tough to drive, considering its substantial size.

Also, the JK is about 1.5 to 2 feet shorter than the JKU. That is a fairly considerable amount. If someone is 2 feet shorter than me, they are a midget. I wouldn't discredit him for saying that he prefers the short length of the JK. The JKU just isn't a monster.

I'd be willing to bet a Fiat 500 is 1.5-2.0 feet shorter than a JK. Does that make a JK a boat?

It's funny how he accuses everyone of whining for stating opinions and calling names, yet nobody ever called him names. I just stated my opinion by calling his Ford Expedition a sissy-mobile and mentioned it was nice to see his wife finally let him get what he wanted. That's hardly calling names, but maybe I hit a bit too close to home. Nevermind he "whined" about it in one of his last posts.

Yeah, it is funny, kinda like the whole "I have more mods so my Jeep's better" or the whole "pecking order" argument. Just last week somebody tried telling me my Jeep was the "bottom class," coming from a guy with a set of 33"s and a 2.5 inch lift on an early 90s Sport. While my intention certainly isn't to offend anyone with a Sport, as it's a great vehicle, I found it kinda funny when this guy told me my Jeep was at the bottom of the "pecking order" when I'm the one with the Rubicon and he's the one with the 20 year old Sport. I'm not saying the Rubicon is the be-all/end-all, but I don't think it's any secret that from the factory the Rubicon is a more capable offroader. Start talking mods and the deepest pockets are gonna win.

My basic opinion of this guy is that he's more of a Jeep owner than enthusiast. I think he's a soccer-dad suffering a midlife crisis and wanted something to make himself feel young again. Hey, that's just my opinion, sort of like he has his.

For the record, I can't claim to be the Jeep enthusiast, as I'm more the guy who would love to be offroad but am perfectly happy being on asphalt as well. It's more about the whole "tops off and ride with the wind in the hair" experience for me; the feeling of "freedom." I can't tell one from another other than for the square headlamps on those older models and a JK.

Come winter time, I'm gonna be in heaven. Unfortunately, given there really isn't anywhere to offroad here, most of my "offroading" will probably be limited to hoping for a big snowstorm. Yeah, it sucks, especially because I definitely wanna take advantage of some of its capabilities, but it is what it is.

Ah, so what you're doing is making comments with the intentions and hopes of pissing people off. You blatantly admitted to it. It's already been established in previous posts that nobody cares whether you like the JKU, so where do you get off claiming we do?

Your "opinions" are a joke. It feels like you're "looking down a tunnel" out the back window? How come I drive a Camaro, which has a notoriously small interior, and I don't feel that way at all? The only "opinion" you've stated which holds any weight is that it can be tough to see out of while backing up. The common sense of paying attention to your surroundings remedies this slight inconvenience.
