Check out Hercules Trail Diggers. I did a lot of research on these before I bought them because I'd never heard of them. The few articles I found were all positive. I also was told by the company, they actually have these tires made by Cooper for them. I saved a few bucks with these and I have been very happy with these.
www.offroaders.com has a review of these too.

30x9.5/15's that I can think of

The walmart good year authority AT is a decent tire but im not positive weather or not it comes in a 30x9.5 but something to look into.. Almost positive it is made on a duratrac carcass and just has a different tread cut
Mid Range AT (great for street, meh offroad but not as bad as a street slick)
General Grabber AT2
Good Year Silent Armor
Cooper Discoverer AT3

I went through all of that too. I liked the look of the 16" rims, but couldn't find a rim that I liked that fit the requirements of bolt pattern and backspacing.
Then I found out that the design of the Dick Cepek DC2 wheels made them look bigger than 15" rims, & they have 3.65" (3-5/8") backspacing which as it turns out works perfectly with the 33x12.50x15 tires. I'm not saying go with the DC2s, but perhaps look at similar wheel designs.

|TJNewbie||The Goodyear Duratrac in a 31x10.50x15 should work without a lift, it looks good and rides great on road & in the rain. It does very well off road too. I have them in the 33" flavor and I'm very happy with them. the Duratracs are probably the lightest, serious all-terrain tires that you're gonna find.|

|Horny Ringman||i've got stock on a 98 TJ right now, but looking to lift and go 33s. Nitto Terragrapplers too heavy? i like the look of all the newer jeeps with less tire and more rim. thinking of going up to 16 or 17" wheels when i do it. don't want that overly bubble looking tire. want the newer more squared off look. thoughts?|

For your desire for 30's and from what I understand of how you use your Jeep here you go. Depending on which stock rims you got you can also run 31's without lift. Discoverer ST Cooper Tires DISCOVERER S/T 30X9.50R15LT OWL 104Q
A tire gets it's weight typically for three reasons.. The amount of rubber used and way it was built. As well as the size of the tire as the bigger the tire the heavier it will be.. The heavier tires tend to be those with 3ply sidewalls as they are built to take more abuse thus more is used to build them giving them a heavier weight. For manny sidewall and tire toughness is important.. For others they are perfectly content with a 2ply sidewall lighter tire...

there is no pro to a heavy tire.
rotational mass will kill your power and make your engine work harder to keep it moving and that = low gas mileage.
currently he goodyear duratrac is the prefered tire because of its light weight.

upgrading tires... any suggestions?
I currently have 225/75R15 goodyear wrangler tires and I'm thinking about going a little bigger (maybe like 30in) but don't want to break the bank. any suggestions?
My jeep is my daily driver (some trail driving durring hunting season) with no lift. I want the look of bigger tires but don't want to loose too much power, mpgs, or re-gear (if thats possible).
also thinking about spacers
any thoughts or suggestions would help!
