Jetjocchris Washed and cleaned her up after a 4 day camping trip to the Tahoe area. Touched up all the scuff marks from the trail on the belly skids and side rock rails with the rattle can..

I know how you feel. I got XD Rockstars (yea yea i know, I'll change them eventually) about a year and a half ago. Back then I only saw one other Jeep in all of Chicagoland with them. Then all of a sudden this summer its like every other Jeep I see has them (not to mention trucks too). Granted I am the only white Jeep with them, but the uniqueness is gone But since they seemingly all started showing up after I got mine I guess that means I can take credit for the inspiration right?

tchurch10 Received my set of spidertrax. Bought them from the spidertrax outlet store on eBay. They are "blemished" but brand new. Best part; only paid $138 for all four delivered.

ArmyofMike Did the poly rear speaker mod.....I really can't tell a difference listening in garage, but maybe road sound is noticeable..oh well, cheap mod!

The very first thing I would do is ditch the awful headlights. Upgrade those to something that actually work and let you see. I personally have some KCs since I am not a fan of how others look but regardless this would be my first mod if I could start over. Second thing I would do is get some wheels and tires. Look for some rubicon take offs local if you can get them cheap enough, I got all 5 in good shape for $400. If not just go out and get some steel wheels and some tires you like. You may want to go with a simple budget boost if you want to clear something a little bigger. I would skip disconnects as it really takes no time to just unbolt your sway bar and that saves you money for other mods. I would put an inexpensive CB in for safety reasons. I would toss a set of tire chains in the back they come in handy. I could go with bumpers front and rear and sliders. Rather than a hard winch mount on the front I would get a receiver built into it to swap your winch from the front to the back. Sometimes you need to go backwards no forwards. The winch can come later if you do not want to drop the money on it. I carry a high lift most of the time in replacement of a winch however I do have a receiver mounted winch I bring with me depending on the trip. If you have money left over I would get some aux front lights and an spod for future wiring needs. Get it with the gauge hole and stuff a volt meter in there. If you decide to do OBA you can always swap it out later. Unless you have 3.21s I would just stick with the gears you have now. I see no need for you to have lockers or change your axle. Find some space in there for some self recovery gear and basic recovery gear like 2 tow straps, shackles, a tree saver, and a 24" axle strap (I use this to jack from my wheel or bumper.

Screw any mods, the first thing you NEED to invest in, is tools. It doesn't matter what lift tires or mods you got, if it breaks and you can't fix it... You will be stuck waiting for a tow truck. I have seen guys go on the trail and break something and not even have a screwdriver.
FWIW, Here is my Jeep MOD PRIORITY LIST (#1 is the most important)

1. Tools
2.-4. Lift, Tires, Sway Bar Disconnects (get these at the same time)
5.-7. Gears, Lockers, stronger Axle (get these at same time too)
8-10. Front Bumper, Winch, armor ( get these @ same time)

I am an avid outdoorsman and hit trails that are rutted out but my primary driving is done on the road around town.

  • Go camping?
  • Mud?
  • Rock crawling?
  • Forestry/logging roads?
  • Hunt game?
  • Hunt zombies?
  • Carry your dog?
  • Carry your gun collection?
  • Get a date?
  • Look good in it at the mall?
  • Look good in it in the 'hood?

You and I are the same page, i was thinking a 2" lift, 34" tires on my stock 17" wheels, changing the front and rear bumpers, tinting the front windows, installing a rear view camera and upgrading the audio a bit

JRJKU Washed it. It looked 10 years old getting back from Ouray. Back to looking like the garage Queen / mall crawler.

Oh what I could do with $4000.

I would ask what kind of driving are you going to be doing with or JKU?

If it were my $4000 and I wanted to keep it mild and my terms. After the lift and tires I would look at what has the highest impact for me on a daily basis. Such as a spiderweb shade, Tuffy products needed security, hard top hoist, audio upgrades, soft top for the summer, etc.

Now offering is a different story and more money.

My rig: 2013 Sahara with 3.73s Mopar stage 3, 3" lift 35X12.5 Nitto Trail Grapplers at 40psi on 17" alloys Front axle is trussed and gusseted Front and rear bumpers are Rampage Recovery Winch is XRC 10K 1 work 38 miles away from my house. My commute is opposite direction from the rest of the world, so traffic is generally light to moderate, and moves well. 1st) I was driving the speed limit with the hard top and doors on, using the AC, windows rolled up. Result 15.6 mpg Time to work: 42 minutes (approximated average) 2nd) I was driving the speed limit with the top and doors off, not using AC. Result 12.9 mpg Time to work: 42 minutes 3rd) I was driving 55 mph with the hard top and doors off, not using AC. Result 14.9 mpg Time to work: 42 minutes 4th) I was driving 55 mph with the hard top and doors on, using AC, windows rolled up Result 19.0 mpg Time to work: 45 minutes (again, an approximated average) I'll bite the three minutes and drive 55 mph from now on. I seriously didn't think it was possible to get that mileage in a lifted jeep with 35s. Half of my commute is on the 30 and 635 (speed limit 60 mph for both). The other half is on the 20 (speed limit 65 mph). Now to pick up a trek top NX, shed the heavy hard top and try the test again!
Maybe I'm missing something here, please help me out.

The difference between test one and four is the speed of a difference about 5 to 10 miles an hour if I am looking at this correct.

How are you calculating your mileage because smarter believe that that's 3.5 MPG difference in my head?
