I know what you mean. but I am lazy. I dont mind doing it but, why not use the warranty I paid for; right?

I use to like working on cars, etc.. but now like adding things and not doing maintenance.

i'll bring it in on monday and see what happens.. Ill just tell them no checks needed.. just fix the leaking pan, when they do that you'll see the rear main leaking.

4.0l sahara If it's the rear main the oil pan comes down the the rear main bearing cap comes off and then it's just a matter of replacing the seal and putting back togather.

anywho, on a 4.0 the rear main only takes a few extra minutes once the oil pan is down, the trans does not have to come out. its a two peice seal that comes out with the oil pan off

oh yeah, make sure its not coming straight down the back of the engine from the valve cover, i've seen many valve covers that don't leak anywhere besides directly behind the engine, and go straight down the back looking like something else
Is there a way I can argue not to pay the deductable?

I just found out that the main seal is 2 piece. it should not take more than a few hrs max with the oil pan. I though you had to drop the trans..

but if its under warranty why should I have to do it.. sure its the main seal.. my valve cover has the normal seepage (spelling) around it, but not dripping I may have to get that under warranty also.

JCS05Rubi Thats what mine looked like when the dealer replaced the rear main. BTW, I didn't pay anything to the dealer when I had my rear main done.. or the axle shaft.. or the trans .. etc. etc.

Find a different dealer. 99% of Jeep dealers suck butt, but you can at least find one that won't charge you for WARRANTY work..

EDIT: Apparently this is common too. At least thats what they told me when I walked in the door and told them my wrangler had a rear main leak.

Ooil pan or rear main seal? Pics

Well I still a powertrain warranty. but the dealer wants 100 bucks if it is warranted.. I asked him why and he said politics.. he cant really explain it. I think they charge for a check fee.. I know they will check the whole jeep for other service.. but I dont want or need anything else.. If its the oil pan then I can take care of it myself for 20 bucks and an hour of my time or spend hours waiting for dealers to fix and find a ride home etc.. but if its the rear main I would gladly pay 100 bucks.. What do you guys think.. its an 05 and have 50k miles..

i dont think there is a way to check it unless I drop the pan, or wait until it gushes out. advice, opinions?
