I run half doors in the winter, and did with TJ before in places like Milwaukee, Chicago and NYC. I think you'll find them excellent in the winter and you may never go back to the full doors.

Most convertibles come with doors with glass windows but no window frame.
Why can't Jeep do the same?
and no aftermarket that makes it but only have half doors with soft windows?
It already has all the bars on it so I don't think safety wise that frameless windows can be worse than other convertilles.
I hope the NEVER do that. First, it would be nothing like the current half doors. The top of the door would be higher. Just look at where the bottom fo the window is on a full door right now. Just removing the frame would not be enough. Second, it would add a lot fo weight for the glass and window mechanical pieces. I think the half doors are fantastic the way they are. Third, I love the look of the soft uppers. To me, that is a great Jeep look and the only way I want my Jeep.

I bought the halfs for the weight being able to take them on and off almost daily in the spring due to rain. Glass windows would make it much worse.

tjjeepman2002 Yes i leave top of all summer. I drive my mustang on days i think it will rain. My jeep with 4" lift to big to fit in my 2 car but i have 18 foot door extended garage i just pull in
06-13-2012 08:41 PM
IowaRaider I ended up with 3 sets of doors, run no doors when possible but throw on the soft doors for when its not going to rain but I need doors for some reason...then I can throw lowers and uppers in the back for a doorless drive home. Halfs when its going to rain since they don't leak like crazy, also for highway trips when I want doors. Full doors for the winter although I may get rid of them, didn't have halfs last winter.

Halfs with windows...same door surrounds as full doors. I got the mirror plates painted at the same time as the doors.

halfs with no door surrounds

fulls

when I first brought her home...cloth lowers

wildrumpus jk i need halfdoors for my fiance, i like doorless but she hates it so half seem to be the only way to get the best of both worlds, she only hates it because she scared to fall out.

Love those half doors

I can attest to the top and door surrounds being identical. I just picked up a used soft top with all the hardware off Craigs list (got a really good deal too!). The guy bought it for his wife's JKU a few years back and she changed her mind. It had full doors and everything is the same as the parts on mine. Most of the time I run with the door surrounds off but I put them on for long trips because I get less flutter out of my bikini top.

I take the uppers off and run most of the day and when the temps get over 100 (which is most days in June) I throw the uppers on and crank up the A/C. I even put groments in an old rear window and tied it behind the rear seats to keep a little of the hot air out.

I just think Jeeps look awsome with half doors.

and they look even awsomer with the uppers off.

Does this help?

They're tossed in the back in those pics (I don't care for how they look with the top down). They are the ones that came with the jeep from the factory and they work perfectly.

No it is not the same. Half doors when the uppers are removed give you a more open area as opposed to full doors. Take a good look at the pictures of half doors with the uppers removed. Then take a look at full doors. I agree doorless is great but half doors ALMOST give you the same affect as doorless. As opposed to the closed claustrophobic full doors. But if you like to take your doors off my post is a moot point. I capped ALMOST so as to not cause a riot amongst the purists.

Sorry, said that wrong. The Sunrider latch is on the windshield, but if you want to lower the entire top, there is a latch on the door surround , I think (I have a '12). I can't see a door surround in you pic that looks like mine. (it only goes on with the soft top and must be removed with the hard top)

Heh, yeah. I was thinking this would be an issue if I was removing the doors from my STi. But on the Rubicon? Probably not. ;]

Ah, right. I went with the RR quick release mirrors as I also like to drive doorless. They look cool too
