Fredzo If I had wanted a slow rust bucket, I'd have bought my daughter's TJ. ;^)

My REAL Jeep has square headlights!

might be a little late

I might be a little late to this thread, Morris 4x4 center has a conversion kit

Kentrol Grill With Round Headlights (Uses TJ Headlights & Buckets) 30646

I personally would just keep it with the square headlight, but to each their own

Steampunk Hey!

Myquite....please!....lets see more!...., I have been eyeing this kind of mod recently...

Do the headlights end up pointing more upwards???...how did you correct this?.....how about bucket mounting??...in the CJ grille they get afixed from the front, but in the YJ gril I believe they hang from behind......did you mod the rear of the grille as well?....any clearance issues??

I am really looking forward to the finished build thread!

myquite It's a stock YJ grill, with CJ buckets cut and pasted in. lol
Once i get it painted and installed i'll do a build thread.

Sasquatch 4x4 I've seen a lot of people just put a TJ grill on their YJ. there is a slight gap between the grill and hood because the YJ grill is more angular and the TJ grill curves with the lights. Its not too noticable unless you know what you're looking for and looks pretty decent. but the best conversion i think is the YJ to CJ7 conversion where you get CJ hood fenders and grill and bolt em onto the YJ tub and frame (YJ and CJ7s had identical tubs). Its cool cause it makes you're jeep a CYJ or YCJ whatever you choose.

CJ clip was not a bolt on for me 89 !

I had to make a new mount for grill as it sits an inch or two farther away from firewall

Good thing my day job is fitting strucural steel , handrail and stairs

I also made me own fenders

The reason I did conversion was sp I could biild a faux military jeep to bounce off rocks and trees and stuff !

Much cheaper than restoreing a real one and it has fooled ownes pf MBs the Lpl

busemans i don;t think we will see it guys. not many people who buy the newer jeeps want to make theirs stick out from the crowd. they put on their lifts and tires and lights and then say "mine stick out, its the lifted jeep with wide larger tires and fog lights". hmmm, let me go try and find that in the parking lot.

but, if htey said "mine is hte huge one with the square headlights", everyone would find it immediately.

busemans i agree, do what you want man, i do. thats why my jeep is stock height and getting a 302 with a c6 in it. i want it to look stock till the light turns green. a lift would be cool but what do i need one for, there is no off roading where i live so it would be a waste of 700 or so bucks. someday, i am probably going to do the round headlights because its different. i like different.

just remember when you are considering things to do.

do i need it or do i just want it to be cool? that will let you know really quickly if that couple hundred bucks is worth spending on whatever. where i live, ever person and their mom has a lifted huge monstrous vehicle (truck or jeep). has any of them ever been off the street? 90% of them have not once. they are all parking lot 4 wheelers and it shows in their perfect paint and non-dinged wheels and bumpers. the beds on the trucks don;t even have scratches but they paid the big bucks to have a shop put 10 or 12" of lift under their trucks an then got huge rims with low profile tires. you can tell the guys who actually use their trucks for hunting or whatever by the fact that the paints scratched and the rims aren't funky looking.

do you want to be one of those guys or do you want to actually use what you put on? a 2.5" lift is plenty for most people in the world and 31s are too. i had 5.5" of lift on my cherokee with 31" mudders and all i did was drive through the ditch in the yard. it got old so i swapped for this wrangler, straight across. i am alot happier

TrailHaunter I appreciate you sticking up for me and again I honestly don't know what I'll be doing. If I do decide to do it, it wouldn't be for quite a while since I need other things that are far more necessary than just giving her a cosmetic makeover.

lavern23 I've had a few questions about the grill conversion so I thought I would make the answers public.

The hood lines will be the same as they were before the conversion.

It is direct bolt in.

It's not as simple as cutting round holes where the squares once were.

The TJ grill is flat like a CJ whereas a Yj is not straight up and down.

Grafting the cj piece on the yj grill let's you get the look where the lights protrude into the grill slats like a cj's does.

If the OP wants to go this route then why bash him. It's his jeep.

My buddy and I did this to his since his was already painted and stickered. It was way less intrusive than putting a cj clip on it since the majority of the paint work was done. I do know if the paint work and stickers had not been already applied we would have put a cj clip on it.

I hope the OP does what he likes and doesn't let all the crap comments keep him from building his jeep the way he thinks it should be.

If you dream it up it can be done.

Ibuildembig CJ clip is a bolt on, just have to mod the front mount a little

droptyne69 i had thought about doing something like this, then i realized it makes as much sence as a breast reduction.... cant do it.

I don't mind opinions honestly and I haven't really decided that I'm going to do it. I was just curious if anyone ever really did it.

bdavid tj grill and fenders. it was not a direct bolt in but with a little welding and some adjustments it turns out pretty good..the tj grill sets higher than the yj so i did some trimming to fit it in. I went to a tube fender because my fenders were shoot..Its your jeep and your choice, make it the way you want ..I dont look at yj and think it is less of a jeep I just dont care for the square lights on my rig...

2xs You know, this guy didnt ask us our opinions, he asked for ideas.

Id do it just to be different, not to bash a YJ, I think the round conversion form a TJ kinda looks clean, but I DO NOT like the way it lines up with the hood, ill be following this thread hoping to find a better way.

No offense, but http://www.yjupgrades.com/Home.html looks like hell...

If lavern23 had a close up on the hood, id be more inclined to comment, but i kinda dont like the way the lights invade the slats....

This one looks clean, until you see the close up and it doesnt match the hood.

While you're at it, why don't you convert to coil springs, and a TJ dash?
