|xxxxxxxxxxxxxzy||I just saw a 2005 soft top for sale with 64,000 for 12,500. I know the seller. It was never off pavement....but compared to my 2013 JKUS it's tiny and claustrophobic. Sure there's more sheet metal, but when I shut the doors the whole side of the jeep flexed. The I6 might prove to be better, but I'll take mine with the 3.6 any day.|

|Darth Daddie||I search for 8 months to find my Jeep. 2005 50k on a I-6. Previously owned by an old guy that pull it behind an RV. I really wanted that I-6, 6 speed manual trans. And WOW it has a lot of power, high and low end. Minivans suck. Really, they do.|

|jkmohican||If the 3.6 proves itself in the long run in reliability, it's a no brainer. The I6 will only have so much of an advantage, and it isn't much more reliable than the 3.8, which is extremely reliable. If the 3.6 can hold its own for as long as the 3.8, than the I6 has very little use. A properly geared 3.6 will have the torque and and still the RPMs to get better mileage and more useable power on the highway at speeds the I6 couldn't imagine.|

|Beaver5||I liked the 258 and i love the 4.0. Not crazy about the V6. The 4.0 is best of both worlds, reliable torquey. I6 with EFI whats not to love? easy to work on? i wouldnt know.|

|Country Outlaw||My jeep I currently have has a 2.5L 4 Cylinder engine. I want a little more power and was looking at putting an inline 6 in it. Would the engine mounts line up or would i have to do some modifications?|

|4.0l sahara||Let me try to sum it up for you. The 4.0 I6 is a proven powerplant that is a pushrod style engien. It reaches peak tourque at a very low rpm making it great for offroading. It is all cast iron. The 3.8l v6 is a cast iron block with aluminum heads. It is a SOHC engien and has a little more hourse power and tourque than the I6 but reaches that at a higher rpm. They both are pretty reliable. IMO the I6 is better. What i've heard from people that have had both is you get same out of the I6 at a much lower rpm. There is nothing wrong with one or the other ,I would rather have a I6.|

rich also brings up a great point, putting an aluminum head on a cast block does lead to problems. the two metals heat up at different rates.

My main complaint or dislike of the V6 vs the I6 and I4 is that they use iron blocks and alloy heads on the V's. You can overheat an I4 or I6 generally with no big issues, try that on a iron/aluminum engine and at a minimum you will be replacing head gaskets. They expand and contract at different rates vs the iron/iron of the Inline engines which tend to lessen the problem quite a lot.
I have never liked aluminum in any engine.

i love this conversation, pastorsteve, that won't be your last post on this topic, cuz its too hard to stop.
this is my favorite argument. the rubicon is the best stock wrangler built as far as capability, who can argue. but i can't stand seeing them in the mall where the owner is too scared to get mud on his tie.
oh yeah, i almost forgot, 4x4 is an option?????? and a car interior, thats what i don't like.

|PastorSteve||Again wrong sorry. These are the most off-road capable stock Jeeps ever made. You could never put 32"'s on most previous factory stock Jeeps. With all respect, it's not whether you like the direction Jeep is going in - it's whether they are as or more off-road capable than prior Jeeps and the answer is a resounding yes. If they have better suspensions, better clearance, better .... they're better. My last post on this as it's pointless.|

they're nice, my wife wants a 4 dr. they've made improvements that are gonna help them sell to a new group, but its not or me.
the cadillac arguement isn't valid to me, cadillac has always strived for one direction, top of the line, luxury. jeep went from rugged off road, to a direction i'm not gonna describe to not offend anyone.
