Don't bother with half ton axles out of a truck. The minimum strength gains aren't worth the headache. You are fine on the front 30 up to a 35" tire. The best upgrades you can do are a high pinion dana 30 out of a cherokee sport and rear dana 44 out of a tj. The other go to rear axle upgrade is a ford explorer 8.8 out of a 96-01 .
I did a magnum 5.9 swap my jeep. It's by far the cheapest and easiest swap.
These are some of your your best options for power and strength gains.

Motor and axle questions are difficult to answer. The tire size is what really determines both. Running 32's your fine. 35's is when you start wanting heavier axles and more power. Regearing helps significantly with power. 54's well now your talking...500+hp and 1 Ton axles or Rocks.
So what is your plan on tire size?

Sounds like you should start looking for a new Jeep with an I6 and a D44 in the rear.
Easier and probably cheaper.

Changing out Drive Train and Axles (Opinions Anyone)
I am wanting to change out my 2.5l motor and transmission, I am also wanting to get rid of my axles (I believe they are 30/35). I am currently running on 32x11.5x15. I am looking for the most inexpensive yet best way to do the upgrades. I have thought about buying a wrecked 1/2 ton pickup and stripping it down and putting it into the jeep, what is everyone's opinion?
