Not yet

Had surgery on my foot and have not had a chance yet to make a trip. I am good with the heat. Just need to make sure plenty of water and the rig is solid with service before going out.

I am heading to Goldpoint tomorrow to learn from the host of the town the trails best suited for me in the Jeep, ATV or my Enduro. Once I know I am going to plan a trip up there for a day of riding overnight camp.

Did you guys do the trip out to Death Valley yet? Just curious. Im guessing that place is hot as hell this time of year.

HI-life Cool. Well I'm down for the trip, hopefully I don't have to work on that weekend.
05-11-2012 09:16 AM
no1gtkid More than enough clearance for almost all trails. So your set for just about anything. The long wheel base helps get over obstacle that require lockers as well so again perfect for getting where you want to go for overland exploring.

HI-life Sounds good. I have a 3.5" lift and 35" tires. Will that be enough clearance? I'm planning on getting a regear as well as lockers hopefully by the end of this year.

The trail rating

as long as you have clearance not talking a 3-6 inch lift and tires your good. Tires can give the needed clearance. We will go slow anyhow.

It is an easy trail as long as it is not raining or snowy. Again most trails out here are really about tires and clearance not 4x4. I am an over lander driver now not a hard core rock crawler even when i did tough stuff never anything above a 7 or 8.

You should be fine we went in a Titan that did no need to be in 4 wheel drive.

You can do a google search on the canyon Titus canyon. It is a one way trail.

The trail I would rate a 3 max out of a 10 scale

HI-life How hard is the trail? Being that I have no lockers as of yet

no1gtkid Next time I head out I will let you know. I am always looking. Very smart to always go with another.

The pic was taken outside of the town Barclay. Most do not know it exists and it is all dirt no paved roads. About 29 miles from Enterprise or so. The sign is in the middle of nowhere.

A Nevada book map shows it not far from the 93 or Caliente.

As for soft sand or mud a cheap thing to carry with you to get unstuck. strips of carpet, snow chains, a folding shovel, and a tow strap, high lift jack and a spare tire to bury which acts like an anchor. These are easy cheap methods that can get you out of many things. Since lockers are cheaper than buying a new rig it is an option to help in some rough areas. spacers give extra clearance on the cheap as well. But skill, common sense, walking it through and planning it out, and taking it easy will get you through many spots. But never try if not feeling it. Better safe then sorry, costs less.

Sorry do not mean to sound preachy. You may already know this stuff just reminding.

LTime I might have to take the 2WD Titan along with another vehicle (a 2 vehicle convoy) to check the stuff out. The Titan now has the Rugged Trail tires that have maybe 4-5k miles on 'em.

Once when I first moved here we went down by Riverside and took a gravel road trying to get to the top of Lake Mead. There were some hairy parts for a 2WD. Finally after quite a long drive we got to where it was just sand and had a hard time even turning around without getting stuck. It was very foolish as we had no cell phone reception and I believe it was summer... Oh yes, the wife was with me and she was pregnant...

So where is this was sign to St George pictured above?
05-07-2012 08:31 PM
no1gtkid Yes a truck with clearance and with good tires can do the whole trek. A toy pre-runner for example would do it easy.

Nothing technical. Going up into the water break did require 4wheel high since it was a dirt hill. I tried with out first and got spinning near the top. I did the entire trek without 4wheel.

These are for roads getting to Ranchers cattle and in some places the small towns no many will ever go to. Barclay for example is small and about maybe 5 homes with a church.

If I got the name of the place right for the name it is a chicken wings place.

LTime I hope to have a Wrangler by the end of the summer (my birthday is in September and this will be a birthday present to myself!) Probably stock a YJ or TJ. Are these trails driveable in a stock Wrangler? In fact, how about a 2WD full size pickup (that is what I have now)?
Hope to catch the trails from here in Mesquite and head up to St George; or down to Vegas...
