Maybe the fakes are better than $hittybilts.

Goofyjumper +1 vote for the TF carrier. Installed one last week and love it. Sturdy, factory look, allows the use of ANY after market bumper instead of being limited to the tire carrier you choose.

Our 'Standard' rear bumper portion is the same as our 'Deluxe' rear in the crusader series. The 'standard' bumper portion is different than the 'deluxe' in the dagger series.

I would call them and verify. My personal experience and the failure of my stock tailgate stop lead me to call them and buy the HD Carrier. There are lots of tailgate woes in threads here when 35's are added. However, some are running 35's with all stock setups just fine. I did for 4 months before mine failed, but it was the stop, not the carrier itself. The Teraflex unit has a built in stop. Also note the broken plastic around the stock hinges. Let us know what they tell you.

I am looking forward for someone to answer your question.
In my case, I am very curious to learn where do knock off's of something made in China come from ?

Correct. I spoke at length with Teraflex on this and in their opinion the vast majority of wheelers are good to go with the factory spare tire carrier for 35's for use with their HD Hinged Carrier. This saves the $200.00 for the Teraflex Spare Tire Carrier and makes the investment around $500 vs $700.

You may feel the TF is spendy, but believe me when I say it is solid and you should never need anything else.
thats a nice looking set up

I just ordered mine through AllJeep.com for a heck of a deal. Ryan over there really hooked me up. I priced the OR-Fab, the Gen-Right, and the Teraflex and the Teraflex ended up being the best deal. Not to mention, it is a one-step opening system. I don't have to pull pins, move levers, release clips, or anything else. Just grab the door handle and open. That's my .02 man, but you have to do what is right for you.

The ACE Engineering allows the tailgate to open fully. It doesn't lock open, just stays open like the tailgate would on its own. If you are on an incline, you would have to be really careful to keep it from opening (after you open the tailgate) or closing by itself.

I went with the TF and its a great piece of craftsmanship. It makes the tailgate feel more solid when closing. I also added an OR Fab rear bumper so I still paid a lot less than most tire carriers and it looks great. And I saved some weight.

bearman95 I like my AEV, nothing but quality materials and workmanship.

Six For anyone with the ACE rear bumper and carrier, does it allow the rear gate to open all the way? The reason I ask is that I have a CB antenna on my tire carrier currently and if it remains in the same area, the rear glass will not open unless the gate opens the entire way. I have a quick disconnect, but it would be a pain having to remove the antenna everytime I wanted to open the rear glass.

Are you referring to the “E-Auto Grilles” one? I believe they are indentical to the Smitty ones just not carrying the Smittybilt name. Even down to manufactured in the same Chinese factory.

To the OP, I have the OR Fab tire carrier. I love it but requires drilling into the body and doesn’t swing open with the tail gate. I have the Jerry Can holder version to clear my 4 gallons of rotopax cans but they sell a non can holder which will hold snug to the gate and a rotopax version that will clear 2 gallon rotopax cans, therefore be a little closer than mine is.

Punkin Slinger I have the RR XHD and really like it. I also drilled the latch holes all the way through like 2012gecko. I pulled the threads out of the tube the first time that I latched it. I now have 1/4" S.H.C.S. w/nuts & washers and it works great.

I also sprayed LPS 3 on all mating surfaces to help prevent corrosion from salt in the winter. I did the same on the front XHD bumper when I mounted it.

Pros:
  • Opens with the gate.
  • Brackets for Hi-lift jack, CB antenna, fire extinguisher, etc.
  • Comes with LED brake light.
  • Can install trailer hitch and clevis rings.
  • Easy installation.
Cons:
  • It's textured and I would have liked powder coated.
  • No rings to attach trailer safety chains.
  • Had to enlarge the holes to be able to install the clevis rings and trailer hitch.
  • Had to buy longer bumpstops to go between the tailgate and tire.
  • Had to re-adjust the shackle between the carrier and door once or twice to stop a rattle.
Overall, Im happy with it.

I have this same setup, except for the TJ. Absolutely love it! As stated above under the cons section, there was some additional adjustments you have to do that are not indicated in the instructions, but overall, its not a big deal at all. I didn't have to buy longer bump stops, i just used some washers on the ones they provided.

Its a little pricey, but very solid.
