I purposely wired my driving light relay so my KC driving lights shut off when I turn the high beams off. It's a lot easier when encountering oncoming traffic to shut all the extra-bright lights off with just one flick of the high-beam lever.

MOz I can barely fit the Hella Rally 1000 - Black Magics on my RRC bumper with the hard covers. They're almost 7 1/2" diameter. I can't imagine 12"

I had considered putting the super oscars on the warn bumper between the Hella 500's but with them being 12" diameter lights did not want to deal with overheating. They did look cool when I test fitted them though, then I priced a 220 amp alternator and ended that plan..

That makes sense why the inspection shop did not flag me for my uncovered Hella Black Magics (mind you I do not have them interlocked with the high beams). A few month's ago, my wife took my Jeep to her friend's garage to have it inspected. I had the Jeep in for an alignment (following my previously posted alignment debacle).

Fearing they would fail the inspection, I had her call the manager in advance and mention that I would bring over the covers. He said the covers were basically a negotiable point and he passed it.

They would never pass inspection here, if you have fogs they have to be tied to the lowbeam/parking lights and go off for some stupid reason when you put the high beams on. If you have driving lights they have to be covered or connected so they go off with the high beams. If you have lights mounted above the headlights they have to be covered always on the road, even if they are not wired up.
I swear most of our motor vehicle laws were written by the amish who don't own or drive cars.

603TJ I have the Hella 500 Fog Lights on my bumper, and they work sooo well. With all this rain we've been having in NH lately they have been a huge help at night. I have Hella 500 Driving Lights on my windshield brackets, but like everyone else, they are only used off- road. If you want lights you can actually use on the road, get the hella 500 fogs, they are sweet.

They're not covered. In fact, KC doesn't even make covers that will fit any of their 8" lights like I am running.

richp You all are missing the point of the purpose the lights serve. The fogs are for close in light that won't reflect back from the droplets in the air on foggy, rainy or snowy conditions. The head lights serve two purposes, that low beams are for the areas further out that fogs don't cover, the highs for even further out, driving lights are supposed to go even further than the high beams. If you live in the North East your use of the high beams is pretty limited, I live in a rural area and I hardly use my high beams, in NJ I use them even less. Actually let me amend that, in NJ I used them more than I use them in the Poconos but that was because I drove 7 miles from my families condo to the train station at 0430 in the morning and 5 miles of that was thru a county park.
I've got CIBIE Super Oscars sitting on the shelf, they are about the biggest baddest lights you can buy and they will blind on coming traffic, other than bragging rights they are kind of useless. Actually I will amend that too, they will peg the light tester at the motor vehicle inspection station when they wheel it out and tell you to turn on your high beams and you forgot to flip the dash switch and turn them totally off and you will fail inspection.
What I get a kick out of is the idiots at the auto parts stores, AA and National, etc, they all stock Hella driving lights which again are useless around here and don't even list or carry real fog lights. Once you have used real fog lights, adjusted properly and not those POS that come from the factory hidden in the air dam, you really miss them and notice when one of them goes out big time.
Now I know Jerry has driving lights and having lived in San Diego I seriously doubt it he even takes the covers off when he's on local streets.

Keagan26 I've got a set of KC daylites, and nobody seems to like them around here at night when the pavement is wet. However I almost don't need to turn my head lights on.

In PA, 55 watts is max. for aux. lights (driving or fog). Like RichP said, driving lights in the mountains (if you want to consider the Pocono region mountainous) are pretty much useless due to the terrain and traiffic. Fog lights are very much a necessity because we get a lot of fog.

Jerry Bransford We're talking driving lights, not fog lights here. Besides, 55 watt bulbs are no brighter than the factory 55 watt bulbs, why bother? I use my 130 watt KC lights mostly for offroad use anyway, or out on desert highways/roads where the traffic is very light.

MOz If I drove down the road with 130 watt fog lights on, they'd lock my ass up. 55 watts is the legal limit for aux. lighting and in PA they need to be interlocked to only run on the low beams.

Jerry Bransford What is your budget? For driving lights that are actually usefull, they need to at least be 100 watts or brighter (mega-expensive HIDs excepted), mine are 130 watts. Personally I've been a KC fan and customer for many years now. It's hard to beat KC's no-questions-asked 23 year warranty that even covers burned out bulbs.

MOz Ohhhhh Hella...Now you are speaking my language.

I have the Hella fogs (55 Watt) and if it get's real challenging, the 7" Rally 1000 Black Magics (110 Watt). The big dogs will burn your corneas out for sure.

Jma20a i put a set of hella 500's on my jeep, i later upgraded to a xenon bulb headlight set up and the high beams are just as bright as the hella 500's.

tj1230 What about the KC 55 watt'rs? The direct replacement foglights are $84 p/pair. The driving lights are little less expensive if I remember correctly. I am running sylvania silverstars for my headlights and have noticed a BIG difference. Carquest or pepboys (20 bucks a light).

Just a thought.

richp If you are looking for improving your nite driving I would suggest you add a set of E code headlights with a good set of bulbs, then add the fogs then a set of driving lights. I don't bother with the driving lights as I never would get to use them, even living in the boondocks up here the traffic is heavy enough that I rarely get to even use the high beams on my CIBIE headlights.
Those IPF duals sound like a good deal, going to have to go to costco with the MiL and see what they have. I currently have the cibie headlights and Hella 500's on the bumper but there are times another set of brights might be handy without hanging another set of lights or getting one of those light bars that attach to the bumper.

bpowa I got IPF's from costco for about 100.. check online.. I like them.. they are both driving and fog.

Driving lights

Looking for suggestions as to what driving lights to get for my 04 wrangler, would like to get ones with the factory type off on switch.

I am new to Jeep and have just bought my wrangler.
