I'm sure I can find someone at my school that owns one that I can fool around with.

I'd offer to help, but I don't own a welder either, plus I don't know how to weld. I've been thinking about buying a cheep one, and just teaching myself.

There'd be a little pavement pounding in between to get from Pillsbury to Ukiah but that's ok.

Sounds good I started a new thread Cow Mt. 8-11

1. Indian Valley Res to Bartlett Springs. Mostly forest service roads, but I know of a few trails on the north side of the Res that are moderate. Also would be fairly close for the Sac crew (less than 2dr drive to get there).

2. Elk Mt/Bear Creek/Snow Mt area. Also mostly forest service roads with some campsite possiblilities (Deer Valley Camp, Bear Creek Camp).

3. Cow Mt. Ukiah side. More moderate trails. Many trails I haven't explored yet.

all these choices are in my neighborhood, but I can't think of anything else on short notice.

Let me know what you guys think.
I'm down for Cow or Elk Mt.

I'd be up for whatever as long as the pinstriping isn't a major feature of the trail Would love to test out those discos you and I put on last month, and get out of a forecasted 104 degree day down here .

rbkelley89 Yeah friends went up there this weekend and got kicked out almost fined.

villageidiot1313 Hmmm I don't see a list anywhere to sign up on... I'm all of a sudden open this weekend and wouldn't mind putting some dirt on the new tires

Given the events in the area i do agree. We will have to put this on hold until the fire is out and reschedule to a later date.

the reasons being 1) the fire is still at zero contianment and 2) the area is now closed to public access. Sucks because it is a really cool place and would make a fun trip but what can you do mother nature wins this time. I will use this to also make another trip to the area later and get down the trail i didnt have time for to check out pipejam lake.

If anyone in the greater sacramento area or anyone else, would still like to do something this weekend feel free to pm me and we can do a local thing.
Thanks again droze for all your efforts! Maybe we can get up there in October sometime. I still want to get up there and explore.

Gold Lake Area

Here ya go. First you need to stop in at the National Forest Office to get a map of the Lakes Basin / Sierra Buttes area Recreation Guide. The office is right off Hwy49 in Nevada City on the right just past Hwy20/49 split. From Nevada City its about 11/2hr to the Gold Lake area. You drive past Downieville (gas), past Sierra City, and turn left at Bassets(gas) onto the highway to Graeagle(gas) then head to Gold Lake. There's camping there or other lakes near-by.
The map will point you to the 4wheel drive trails, and camping areas, lots of lakes for fishing also.
For wheeling head for Gold Valley, its a winding trail in the valley which leads to Snake Lake trail (lockers rear), or Little Deer Lake trail (lockers rear). You can run these trails in either direction. Or you can by-pass these two trails in the valley and continue on to Hawley Lake (private) just drive past and go onto other loop trails that are easy wheeling.
Since I was just up there this last weekend wheeling for 2 days I really want to wheel elsewhere for right now.

motojunkie101 Anyone have more info on the gold valley trails? Since high lakes is now closed that could work for us. I'm with Bob, I'm chomping to get the jeep off the pavement.

However if the wind and fire change direction it will be better to call it off rather than risk saftey for nothing more than a days wheelin.
I think we should reschedule this one droze. I still really want to explore this area and am super bummed about the current events, but just don't wanna go up there while it's on fire. Just my 2cents.

We're also on the fence for going on this run, don't like heavy smoke, but can do a rain check when the forest is smoke free and open again. Not into prairie city. If anyone wants to know about Gold Vally trails, they are easy to harder with great views at about 7k ft elv. They are in the Tahoe Nat Forest out of Bassets hwy49 north of Nevada City area. Would be a 2 day run for those of you in the bay area. Anyway keep us posted.
I'd be interested in knowing more about this area. Looks like a toss up distance wise between the two.
