Here is more than you need to know
These are not all the Jeeps, but here is a list of the most popular body codes in shape code.
1. CJ / From the beginning of time until 1986
2. YJ / 1987 - 1995
3. TJ / 1997 - 2006
4. JK / 2006 to date
5. XJ / 1984 - 2001
6. ZJ / 1993 - 1998
7. WJ / 1999 - 2004
8. WK / Since 2005
9. XK / Since 2005
10. KJ / Since 2002
11. SJ / Full size Jeeps (Wagoneers) 1963 - 1991

Don't forget DJ. U.S. Mail "Delivery Jeep". MJ = military Jeep.
I think they dropped the significance after the CJ.

CJ's were followed by the YJ, which some say stood for Yuppie Jeep, they are identifiable by the square headlights.
After the YJ came the TJ, returned to round (correct in my opinion) headlights and got away from leaf spring suspension. Time frame on the TJ was from 97 until 2007 when it was replaced with the new model, the JK.
Also, you may see references made to an LJ, that is the code for the extended wheelbase Unlimited model TJ's. Hope this helps!!

|jpdocdave||cj actually does stand for civilian jeep. the rest are just codes. the very first jeeps right after the war were civilian jeep, or cj ( cj2-a etc.)|

ok so this might seem like a dumb question. but i was ondering what the TJ and JK and CJ and all the others what do they stand for if nething.
