mspencer54 I have the problem of my doors locking, but not unlocking on my 92. I ended up replacing the center console with one that locks. Its been broken into once and they didnt bother trying the center console. Oh and in CO, i believe its 50 bucks for the background check and u get ur CCW.

Better yet, go to the Taurus site and watch the short video for "The Judge"
(I think it's Taurus)

doors don't lock

Try lubricating the hardware inside the door panel and help it move a couple of times, the tailgate hardware can be serviced by removing a couple of bolts.

My doors would not lock untill I lubed them with silicone spray and helped them move a couple of times, they now work really well. I used a small screw diver inside the door panel to help the locks to work the first time.

Both doors and the tailgate and the glove box used the ignition key. My jeep is a 94.

Diannah Well, I think a locked half door would illiminate the element of surprise and give me enough time to grab my club and weild it.
NO? or at least hit the gas if I was at a stop light.

Look I know nothings gonna protect me if someone really wants in. I'm just trying to discourage the causal homeless and curious.

I did poke around last night and found the 91 Parts Catalogue PDF. Many thanks to the kinda folks that put those things online. I'm hoping my cousin, who's fairly handy with cars can pop the panel off and see what's what.

Along that line, is there a trick to getting the panel off?

And if it was easy to get a concealed permit in Los Angeles I'd be looking into it, truely. Unfortunately the only person I know that has one got it because he was working as a body guard.

Can't speak to CO laws but here in California, it takes an act of Congress or some other political clout to get a CCW card.

whiteyj My 94 uses one key for ignition, half door locks, and tailgate. Sounds like it's time to pop the door panels off and check the lock cylinders/linkage.

Diannah I have half doors.
My key does not work for the doors nor does it work for the TailGate, which I'd also like to be able to lock so I can put one of the hida trunks in.

No I can't lock the doors from the inside.
The little toggle control won't budge and I don't want to force it for fear it might break or stay locked :-)

amerijeep Gotcha. Do you have full doors or half doors? The locks are different for each door, supposedly. The key you have for your ignition does not work in your doors, right?

You can't even lock your doors from the inside?

Diannah I appreciate not locking the Jeep because of the potential damage to the top.

I'm thinking more along the lines of wanting to lock it while I'm traveling through downtown LA at 3am in the morning after a job and not wanting any toml, dick or harry, open up my passenger side door and attack me.

I'm with Amerijeep, I've never locked the doors since the day I brought mine home. Too many horror stories of slashed soft tops and windows! Learned to lock everything up that I wanted to keep or pull it out of the Jeep at night.

Dare2BSquare You can take the door panels off and see if the rods which connect the toggles to the lock mechanism are binding. I would just lube it up real good and try working the locks. Make sure you have spare keys made first and be careful not to break the key of in the lock as you try to work them. Of course, it won't really matter if you do since the locks don't work anyway, but make sure you have a spare key first.

rebelBullDawg325 console on my 91 is another key, and my doors and tailgate dont lock either. it dont bother me though, i figure i'd rather sum1 open the door and take somethin out instead of slice the top to do it
10-05-2006 08:14 PM
Diannah Mine's a 91. Good point about the console. It's probably another key. Don't know what to do about that except leave it.

On the doors. The key goes in but won't turn.
The door has lock controls inside, like toggles next to the door handle, but they won't flip either.
It's like the lock is jammed or something.
Same on passenger side.

On the tailgate the lock seems jammed as well.
Don't know if there's a switch inside, didn't look.

Dare2BSquare My 95 uses one key for everything...well except the console which I put in after I got it. Don't know if it's the same on a 91. Does the key go in and just not turn the lock or does it not fit in there at all? It wouldn't hurt to spray a little lube like PB Blaster into the locks and see if it frees them up. Spray the lock button on the door panels, too. Then try working them. With the door open, you wouldn't want them to lock you out.

doors and tailgate won't lock

Hi,
I inherited my 91 wrangler from a friend whose husband passed away.
I really dig the vehicle, it rocks! I've wanted one since I was 20 and now I've got one(hell of a way to get one though).

Anyway I have a slight problem.

The doors and tailgate don't lock. Neither does the little storage bin between the seats.

Patty lost her husbands keys at the hospital the day he died so we don't know if there were other keys or not. But she never remembers being able to lock the doors.

Even though it's a soft top I'd feel safer late at night if I could lock my doors, and I'd like to be able to lock the tailgate so I can put one of those insta-trunks in there.

The doors have buttons on the inside but they don't work and the ignition key starts the car but that's it. Are they all broken?

Ballpark what might this set me back to get them working?
Is it something I can do myself? I can fix computers but somehow I feel this is different and might require other skills.

Any constructive input would be appreciated.

thanks in advance
diannah morgan
