|jeeperman||Yes, your transmission is supported almost entirely by the skidplate. What isn't supported by the skidplate, is supported by the bolts that hold the transmission to the engine.|

|distortedtj||You will need to support the tranny/tcase with a jack or jack stand. You can place it in front of the skid to suport the tranny before removing the skid.|

Tranny Skid-Plate question..
So im in the process of taking apart Appolonia (my Jeep) and I would really like to treat and paint my skid plate back to health. Its not in bad shape. Its jsut the color of rust. If I were to unbolt the skid plate, is the tranny supported by it? It looks like there is a little, id say 4"x4" section of it resting on the skid plate but does it support a majority of the weight?
I guess the real question is can I unbolt the skid plate without having to worry too much about the tranny. Im pretty sure Ive read on here in the past the answer is no but just making sure.
