90DesertTanYJ I like to see prices on the rise, it will make my project worth more in the end. It may have 150K on it but it will be perfect when I get thru. Got it for $1500 knowing it had some issues and in need of a reskin soft top, at least 2 tires and paint. Ive mostly been snatching out all eliminated systems since the BBD is gone. I replaced brake hydraulics and rebuilt the tilt steering column. Ive got about $300 in little stuff and now all safety stuff is working like brakes, brake lights, blinkers, headlights, wipers and the horn. I fixed the clock too!

Figure I will have about $3500 in it when I am done and I will get that back and more IF I ever sell it.

^ this exact reason. Production date does not matter, unless its actually built in '96, however it can be built in 96 and considered a 97, just not a 95....

OBD2 is not hard, but back then all the manufacturers were adapting, guess the Wranger wasnt their top priority, but it sure should have been....

OverkillYJ Yeah that 95 technicality is a pain. The vins come up as 95 too even though mine is from Dec 95. The thing is in PA I need emissions done for inspection. If it is a 96 or newer it is a machine everyone has. If it is a 95 or older you have to get it on a dyno which is harder to find. I showed the guy the manufacture date last time I got inspected hoping they would use the new machine and save me the hassle but since the vine is registered as a 95 I still have to do the dyno. So stupid.

stykthyn Mine was built 9/95. Title says 95 on it.

zero_chance Man, seeing some of those prices, I really got a steal. Paid 1400 for mine a year ago, previous owner had put a newer frame into it shortly before the sale, zero rust on the frame at all, 3.5 inch suspension lift, 2 inch body lift on 33x12.5s, full hard doors, hard top and bikini top. Granted, the springs sag a little on the passenger side and the tub had a few rot spots. Just got done replacing the tub, fenders, tailgate and grille, so now theres zero rust anywhere. Even with the new sheet metal, Im still clocking in at under 2K spent on it.

DILLIGAF It says 95/12 for manufactured and so it hit the showroom floor in late January, and wala there you have a 96? Right?
07-15-2012 09:22 AM

07-14-2012 10:47 PM
Raoul I know for sure my YJ was one of the most sought after jeeps.
Then I made two payments and they stopped looking for it.
07-14-2012 10:47 PM
Ibuildembig That's still a 95, the 97s came out in 96

OverkillYJ Lmfao! Ha ha ha. I got a late model 95 which is actually a 96, but that comment is funny.

Jerricho Picked mine up for $1800 8 months ago, wouldn't idle, leaking oil all over the place, with all sorts of electrical problems. I have probably 75 hours into her, running strong now, zero oil leaks, rides smooth, and all the lights plus the radio even work. Pretty sure if I put it in the classifieds around here I could get $4k for it today.

Best part is I really only have about $150 in all the repairs. I know the "What is your time worth argument" but I work on it because I enjoy it, so I don't count that.

U lost all credibility at "..96..."
Come on! Even I know that

brokeagin Not trying to take anything away from the TJ and newer Jeeps but i was looking for a CJ 7 or a YJ. Due to their simplicity (no ABS, air bags, etc.) they seemed like the last of the true Jeeps. However CJ's all seemed over priced so they got ruled out pretty quickly. I paid 3800.00 for mine and feel like I got a great deal.

Kahuner I don't know about a "YJ being the most desireable Jeep" but I've been told that a car reaches it's maximum depreciation when it's 15 y/o.

Our YJ's are past max depreciation; they're now appreciating!!

Fo shizzle!!
