BAP i have the 4inch rc lift with 33s,,,be sure to have the rite wheels 15x8 or 10s or you will be rubbing your 33x12.50s on your leaf springs when turning...

i plan on doing an axle swap in the future and swapping out the 2.5 to a v8 one day

also i want to re/gear to the 546 also...and keep my 5 speed too

Ianbeaulieu So how would you do that? Like basically line it up, chalk some lines on and weld it there?

Or a 5.0

rockbottomyj You'll have to cut off the old perches and shock mounts and weld on new ones. Pretty much any swap you do won't be a bolt on.

JBodony Ok. There are plenty of scrapyards around here so I should be able to pull that axle easily. The question is will I be able to mount it myself. I have all the tools I should need except for a welding machine, but could it be done without?

Ibuildembig Your right that a 4.56 is the best but 4.10's will be fine. The last YJ I did for my dad was left 4.10's and its just fine. 8.8 is a much better rear than a Dana 44 and alot easier to find. If you can find a front out of a 4 popper, that ratio will work fine as thats what I did to dads. As far as the lift goes, I prefer a spring over but your 4 inch RC will be ok, your just going to have a rougher ride.

What is the best combination for 33 inch tires in a 1992 YJ? (Axles, gears, etc)

I recently bought my new to me 92 YJ. She's got a 6 cyl 5 speed and is already decked out with aftermarket bumpers, flares, rims, etc. Basically everything that I planned to do to it. Seems like my next step is going to be the big one. I want a lift and 33's with an upgraded rear axle.

Here is what I need to know!

#1 I want to swap the stock dana 35 in the rear and upgrade the front D30 to match the gear ratio of the newer rear. What is the best way to do this? I want it to be a DIY and I'd prefer to not have to weld anything. I've read about the ford 8.8 swap and dana 44's. which is easier? and also remember that I'd like to keep cost minimal.

#2 As far as gear ratio goes I'm thinking if I can find an 8.8 Ford with 4.10 gearing I should be able to upgrade my front to 4.10 or even buy a 4.10 one from an old 4 cyl. Are they compatible? My stock ratio is the dreaded 3.07 so there's no way I could run 33's without changing something. I know 4.56 is the ideal ratio for 33's but should 4.10 work just fine?

#3 What kind of other modifications are necessary to make this axle swap possible?

#4 I plan on doing a 4in rough country lift with a 1.25" body boost. Will that accommodate nicely with the 33's? Plenty of room? Anybody have pics of that setup?

Anyways these are just some of my thoughts and concerns. Any sort of constructive criticism will be gladly taken. I hope to get my jeep sitting tall soon. Thanks - Jake
