|tn-yj||Well don't you first need to clearly define what a Jeep is to determine when it ceases to be one? What constitutes a Jeep? If you were having this conversation with a philosopher he would ask the definition first i think. Is it the tub? the frame? capabilities? all of the afore mentioned? With a clear definition it would easier to determine a stopping point. Maybe Im looking to deep lol.|

Should be a law stating that somebody that does that is allowed to get their heads smacked by other jeep owners.

|jeepcop1||Hmmmm.... this is an excelent quesiton. I'd have to agree that if it started as a Jeep and still has the tell-tale grille and relative body then I'd still have to call it a Jeep. All of the mods that you can do to them is what Jeep is all about.... other than lowering. I think I threw up a little when I saw those pics.|

If you ask the Texas DMV
This one is registered as a 2003 Jeep Liberty

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if it were real. I've seen trucks done like that...
Of course the owner should be shot for such a sacrilegious act...

I think the first pic has been photo shop to I just found them on the web

x2 Spanky. Who in their right mind thinks lowering a jeep is a good idea? I have seen a couple jeeps on KSL(local classifieds) w/ 20" rims and 33" tires. Something doesn't add up. If people wanted a pavement princess or asphalt H**ker why buy the most versitile off-road vehicle.
Just a thought!

We basically came up with the fact that if it began life as a Jeep it will always be one regardless of the number of mods you do. (The VIN says it is one)
Conversely, making one from scratch...? Dunno...

|jeeps&comics||ohhhh geez-us... is that first jeep even off the ground? man... why? WHY?!?!|
|07-30-2008 01:56 AM|
well if it had to built by chrysler to bee a jeep the older jeeps are not jeep since they where built by amc
even farther back then that they where built by ford and then theres the willies
so I say yes the jeep yj you could build from all the parts in quadratec still make it a jeep
but this should not have happend (why would someone do that)
|07-30-2008 12:53 AM|
technically if it still has the jeep frame and jeep body its still legally a jeep right ? no matter what else is done to it ??
richp made a good point; you could almost build an entire thing from quadratec but not use any chrysler part. is that still a jeep?
new motors/trannys/axles are to common. we cant leave them out of the mix. i believe they are still jeeps
but what wouldnt I personally call a jeep? i really dont know! maybe something that takes it away from its original purpose. like lowering it, putting HUGE rims on it, stuff like that.

|debruins||id say as long as it has the jeep grille and a jeep frame and can go topless, and at least looks like one, it is still a jeep, but all the mods need to be done so it can be better off road, not so it looks better or anything|
|07-29-2008 09:48 PM|
|mr4x4||I would say its not a jeep if you replace the motor with a 22r and toyota tranny put yota axles in it and replace the tub with a taco (tacoma) body|
|07-29-2008 09:31 PM|
|richp||Considering you can take the full quadratec catalog and build a YJ FROM SCRATCH and not use ONE chrysler part is that still a jeep|
|07-29-2008 08:52 PM|
IMO modifications to jeep parts are ok. like lockers, stronger axles, suspension lifts and more. if there are some non-jeep axles or a non jeep engine in a jeep i wouldn´t call it a jeep anymore.
p.e. my buddies with unimog axles and corvette V8s in their CJs call their cars crossbreed and not jeep.

When is a Jeep no longer a Jeep?
Was talking with a bud the other day about all the things you can modify / manipulate / upgrade / replace on a Jeep and he posed an interesting question:
"When is a Jeep no longer considered a Jeep?"
Basically at what point with all the things you've done with it does it become not a Jeep (or a used-to-be-a-Jeep)...
Conversely, when building from a non-Jeep, when does a custom rig BECOME a Jeep?
We came to a conclusion, but I'm curious to see your take...
