Your right the t case is alot more easier than to rebuild a transmission. I was watching on how to install a SYE on youtube. How about the distance on the drive shaft will that change if I put a AX15 thanks again

OverkillYJ TC is easy. I am guessing you didn't put in your SYE. You just open it up and take out parts until you get to the gear. Pay attention when you take it apart so you can pit it back together. The gear should cost you around $100. Other option is to get a case with the gear already in it and sell the case you have to break even.

Thanks a lot guys for the input. Unfortunately I'm very limited to accessing either transmission its like a transmission only comes up twice a year for sale to catch one so far the closest I got was a ax5. I would love to have a ax15 and even if I do get one I'm a little confused about modifying to a 4cyl. I understand the bell housing part, but the thing that gets me is the t case. I know you have to change the input shaft on the t case to 23 spline to match the trans. How do you change it out?? and we have a SYE on the t case too. Will the trans change the distance on the drive shaft?? Thanks again guys for your input greatly appreciated

Johnny Ray Listen to Overkill, get rid of the AX-5 and get the AX-15. The AX-5 is not worth your time or money.

OverkillYJ I would bet some cash that is a bearing. They tend to scream after warming up. It doesnt matter if your in gear or not since even in nuetral half of your transmission is turning inside the case anyway. and YES, the bearings are a pain to replace in a regular garage most guys have. The thing is once you're in your transmission and your doing bearings you might as well do a full rebuild. You are going to have to pull gears to get to all of the bearings in there anyway. Chances are once you get your transmission open you wont even be able to tell which bearing it is unless it is getting pretty bad. Order a full rebuild kit and go to town on it, throw away the paper gaskets they give you though. Red RTV is all you need. Another thing is that this is a perfect time to get an AX15. I was patient getting mine and found one after a few weeks of looking for $140 on Craigslist. Will be some of the best money you ever spent.

AX 5 Transmission

The situation is a loud squealing comes about only when jeep is warm and running while coasting with or without the clutch disengaged. I narrowed down all possible symptoms with a process of elimination. At first I thought it was the belts I replaced all belts and pulleys except for the main crankshaft pulley. Alternator, water pump and power steering. The sound was still there. I was getting really irritated so I left the jeep on after warming up and crawled under the jeep to listen and hear more of the sound. Sure enough it was loud on the bell housing area. Last night I changed out the entire clutch kit. Pilot bearing, clutch release bearing, disc and pressure plate. After all the hard work sure enough the sound was still there. If there is anyone out there with the same issue as me. Please let me in on what the cause is willing and able to try something I haven't tried yet. Thank you for your time
