I've had my JK for 2 years now. The AC still shuts off sometimes for 5 seconds. I still count the seconds.
It really isnt a big deal and after 2 years nothing has gotten worse. the AC is still very cold and it run normally except for the 5 seconds.
I think the 5 seconds is some kind of reboot of the ac system. I have no expertise and cant begin to describe why.
It really doesnt bother me at all anymore. I still love my Jeep even if i have to sacrifice 5 seconds of air blowing every once in awhile.

|Yukonsavage||Countless times I have taken it in and there is still no fix for it. Now I am dealing with the #6 cylinder issue and am dealing with a sad excuse of a dealership!|

|Lusus_Naturae||Don't bring up the 10-15 year outlook guppy - that's scary stuff.. I wish I could have kept the TJ and bought the JKU. Although, 10-15 years from now, maybe we'll all be in a newer Jeep again.|

14000miles on my 2013 sport and it just happened to me 2 days in a row.
Fan shut off for 2 seconds then back on.
Both times AC was selected on and fan blower was set to max.
Jeep had been running less than 5 minutes.
No auto temp control option on my Jeep.
I read thru this entire post and saw that someone else also had the electric windows fail to go down. That happened to me just once and it was just the front 2 doors. Back windows would go down.
Shut off jeep...restarted and windows have gone up and down fine without a problem.
Makes me wonder what these vehicles will be like when they start getting some high mileage and 10 to 15 years old.

|Desertraider||Footer27: My 97 Tj did the same thing last week. 200 miles and 4 days later, it started to smoke real bad. Turns out that my AC clutch had burned out. I had some extra coin so I took it to a mech. In the end, cost me just under $1,000. Runs like a champ now.|

|Footer27||My blower quit working today on all four speeds. Previously, my 1st and 2nd speed had gone out. I'm about an 8 hour drive from home. Will I be able to drive the Jeep without the blower working without causing any problems?|

Went out and double checked the fuses, as was suggested by a crusty old mechanic.
Nothing blown or popped.
But now fan works but A/C indicator light flashes on and off. Still no cool air inside.

Yeah I showed Jeep the video of it cutting out when hitting 24 C and they made an appointment back in nov to replace the blower head unit.
They claim this fixed the issue, I couldn't tell you yet as I live in Newfoundland and we haven't had summer temps yet. In fact we are still getting snow right now in May.
But I bet you when we do hit the summer temps that the issue still there.

|JE01||I think 75 degrees marks the spot! It turned off when the temperature went up to 75 and when it marked to 76, which was for a slight second, it turned on again.|

I haven't had the time to test mine enough with the 73-4 degree idea.
To answer your inquiry though - I believe all manufacturers have issues, what we hear and see is the result of this and more -
1. How many people are complaining.
2. How loud they are complaining.
3. If the media gets involved.
4. Does a recall get issued.
5. how well the company covers their butt.
6. How well the company handles the issue.
7. How well the company treats the consumer.
I'm sure we could add some others to the list, but that covers a lot already. So we are discussing this A/C cut out issue. Some of us out of how many Jeeps out there have complained, and some have taken the Jeep in to have it checked.
Out of that, a few may have had a tech experience the issue. Jeep sees this as a low priority or non-safety issue I'm sure. All of this factors into it, and until someone finds the cause and proves it out - probably on their own (either a Jeeper or Jeep tech), it's probably not getting fixed.
I don't like that idea, but I understand it. If I could get into the CANbus programming more and see every read out I may be able to figure it out more, this isn't an easy, old-fashioned mechanical thing now, most likely it's a glitch in the programming causing the Jeep to shut off the blower when a certain perimeter is reached or breached. Mine has done it a few times a well, and I do believe it may have been occurring when the outside temp on the dash said 73 or 74 degrees. I will be testing it more this summer, but when it's in the 70's I usually have the windows open or top off.
I think my TJ was a lot easier to deal with overall, but I do like some of the newer features too. The rush to improve and have the most options, the best of the best, etc has pushed companies to release things faster even if it's not proven. Then back-fix them with recalls, flash updates, and patches. It happens in all industries because that what people drive to happen - we are the cause whether we like it or not. If everyone demanded a stable program or item and refused to take a chance or be the first the have it - we would see less issues.
Companies aren't off the hook though - look at Chevy recently. They finally uncovered the ignition problem - and they knew about it!!! How many of us would have paid $5 for the part to fix it and maybe even fixed it ourselves?! I know I would have. Yet they didn't even give consumers that option, some people died from it too. Toyota had issues with run away vehicles too, supposedly the floormat caused it. I don't buy it though, I think they reflashed them when the car came in for recall for new floormats and kept it hush hush. Ford has sparkplugs blowing holes in the engines, they know why, but there's a lot of work to fix it sometimes.
I'd say Jeep do pretty well overall.

|Lu Bell||I am a new member to this forum, seriously considering buying my first Wrangler. I gotta ask if these kind of strange defects showing up along with apathetic dealership technicians is what I have to look forward to. At retirement age, that reputation is the reason I never bought one earlier. I hear that lately Jeeps have gotten more reliable, and I love the culture and "belonging", but this is making me a little skeptical. Is this "it"?|

Still having the issue here, and reliably at 75 degrees on the temp display.
I find it funny that the display "climbs" from the last temperature to the new temperature. Seems like it should just read the temperature outside at that time and adjust immediately, but maybe something so instant would be fluctuating all the time.
I will mention it to the dealer next time I go in for the trans line recall repair, but I dont feel like keeping it overnight to reproduce it, probably twice, before the tech understands, and then likely has no fix yet anyway. Unless there is just a new flash I can ask for that might happen to have a fix.

Bump to see if there is any updated info on the A/C "cutout" issue.
My 2012 JKU Sport S did it once or twice in the first year of ownership, but is now starting to do it every time I'm in my Jeep. As others have said, it's typically within the first 5 minutes of starting and, as the few posts above me have discussed, happens when the external temp readout is at 75 degrees. The duration has been 3 seconds on the dot almost every time, but I just noticed on the way home from work that it only lasted about one second, but that's the exact length of time it took for my external temp display to cycle through the 75 degree mark. I'll start watching to see how the cutout correlates with the 75 deg reading. On cooler mornings, it may take 3 seconds to climb from 74 to 76. It's in the mid 80s here right now, so the climb likely happened faster.
I'm out of my warranty period based on mileage (48,000), but I can likely get it good-faithed at my dealership if there is a TSB on the issue.

It doesn't happen often nor more than once a trip but when it does it's within the first 5 minutes of driving, anyone else on that?

|diggler86||So today it happened later in driving than usual. But the day started out cooler than usual here and then heated up when the sun came out. Right when it happened, I checked the temp and sure enough, it was 75F. I will keep checking but theres got to be a connection with the temperature that people are seeing it happen right at that temp.|

I will be paying attention this week, our cold front just came in today, it was actually a bit too cool to run the A/C today though, it never hit 73 when I was out.
introsystems - Can you get a part number for what they changed out? Or a copy of the invoice or work order saying what they did?
