SeaComms We had a 2011 JKU that was only 4 weeks old on a "Ladies Day" easy trip roll just before last Christmas. It slipp sideways into a storm water drain then flipped over and landed on the front and rear bars about 8 feet below the road surface. Only damage was a bum print sized dent on the bonnet.

I sat upside down for about 4 hours before we finally managed to flip it back over and drag it sideways back up onto the trail with 5 winches.

After it was up, we pulled the plugs and covered all the plug holes with rags then turned it over with the starter for 30 second stints every 5 minutes or so for the next half hour till it stopped spitting oil out. Once the plugs went back in it fired up instantly in a massive cloud of white smoke as the last of the oil burnt off. While it was burning it off pumped the brakes for a while to make sure no probs, then drove it around the car park a few times testing the brakes and it was good to go.

LBrito Have you guys heard about the new 2012's and their roll over issues? -- I can see it now... a new rumor brews.

Glad your roll over situation is slowly working out.

Dale_K Funny that a started would go bad from a rollover. Seems unrelated and therefore a warranty item.

ilikeguns nice man! I was hoping to see the outcome

tylerfingerle so as it turns out it was just a faulty starter. 200 bucks, and it's ready for round 2 lol. so far i owe 250. i'll get an estimate tomorrow on the body work and paint. i'm just relieved it's not hydrolocked or worse. i lucked out. haha this'll be a good memory

Jeeperz Creeperz Man sorry to hear about that. It took it pretty well with not that much damage with all things considered and no one got hurt.

Being new to Wranglers, I find it fascinating that someone can spend $40,000+ (with mods) on a vehicle, smash it and think "no big deal", time to spend more and have the resources to do it then hit the trails again.

I guess I have to stick to mall crawling until my winning lottery ticket hits, a rich relative dies, I pay it off or my side business takes off. (Yes I am jealous...LOL!)

Good luck!

Truly sucks for you, OP

had to get in here to follow results.

Riccochet My money is on hydrolocked motor from oil getting above the pistons. I which case OP may have damaged the connecting rods and possibly the crank/bearings by trying to start it while locked.

Pull the plugs, all of them, and turn the motor with a breaker bar on the crank pulley. If you can get one full rotation of the motor with no binding then try to start it with the key(without the plugs in) and see if oil comes shooting out of the plug holes. That'd be my first suggestion.

LKQ in Belleville MI has 14 right front doors from 2011's, likely take-offs. They have both shades of red, too. Asking $715 for each, likely able to talk them down considering how many they have. Could prob get the fender flares from them as well. 800-686-8494
$700 for a door?!?! Who needs doors.

you will have a story to tell your grand kids some.day.take care and stay safe...i have come close to a flip on a previous jeep but got it before

they make these things in jeeps so you don't have to risk jumping out. It's a belt that attaches to the seat...

glad you are okay so I can give you s*** about not wearing your seat belt. next time I want pics.. preferably a POV shot of you rolling but firmly implanted to your seat.

Jakesdad The problem is you're all out of balance now. You have to flip it over on the other side, let it sit for about 20 minutes while taking lots of pics, then flip it back up. You should be good to go.
07-16-2012 12:46 PM
matthew87 just plastdip it.

good as new!!
07-16-2012 12:29 PM
tylerfingerle lol ^ right. i would have got pics when i flipped it but it was at night and the phone was back at the house. i didn't want it on it's side for that long, and yeah there could be more damage than what it appears, but i did a pretty good job of setting it on it's side. i came to a complete stop on 2 wheels before it flopped over. i'm not used to the grip i get with these new tires. i took the usual turns not grasping that these tires might grip a little better than stock haha, lessons learned, and makes a good story. i actually jumped out the roof as it tipped lol

Lowerumble Is the sheetmetal on the door the only "real" damage? Hard to tell, but it looks if the other door and fenders are ok? If they have to get you a whole new door, I would keep that old one just for wheeling now. Let us know what the shop says when they get it started. Thanks for posting the carnage!
07-16-2012 12:01 PM
cebley Have you tried pulling a plug to look down into the cylinder. Could reveal if you have had any oil get into the cylinders.
07-16-2012 11:58 AM
tylerfingerle there ya go haha, like i said the damage isn't too bad, i just gotta replace a door and the skirts and she's good for round 2. i just gotta get her starting again.. there's soo many electronics under the hood. this new pentstar engine is nuts and so compact in there, i'd feel bad for somebody if they had to pull it out for some reason. oh and i can't figure out the problem, and it needs body work done anyways so i'm just sending it into the shop and letting them deal with it... i'll let you know what the estimate comes to be haha my guess is somewhere between 2-3,000 as long as nothing internal is damaged lol
