HEI and Nutter Bypass together
I am somewhat of a newbie and am getting ready to install the HEI ignition in my 88 YJ and have a quick question about the order of things when combining the HEI with the Nutter and was hoping you guys might be able to help me out. I have done a ton of research on both mods and understand how they work but there are some steps in the process I am struggling with when combining the 2 mods.
Following the instructions I have found I am going to install the HEI, start the engine, and adjust the timing. Then I am going to remove the stepper motor from the carb, adjust the metering pins, replace the stepper motor then start the engine and adjust timing and idle again.
Is that correct?
Also, if I understand the Nutter instructions correctly, I am supposed to run the engine until it is operating in closed loop mode if the ECM is still functional. Two questions on this, by going with the HEI am I eliminating the stock ECM? And two, if not, how do I know when it's running in "closed loop mode"?
There is also mention that you disconnect the connector from the stepper motor. This will remain disconnected from this point forward correct, it will never be reconnected?
I really appreciate any help you guys can provide. As a new Jeep owner I am going to owe a lot to guys like you who are taking the time to provide valuable information to guys like me. I just want to have a thorough understanding of what I am doing before I start tearing things apart.
