daddyjeep Chasm, If you just want a little boost to help clear your 31's I would get a 2" shackle lift. You will have no concerns with your steering or t-case. You will need some longer shocks too.

chasm Okay folks, I've got an additional question about the YJ lifts, tires and so on. I am working on a 93 YJ with a 4 banger too, and had questions similar to damuddman. I have 31's now and want to do a mild lift. At what height suspension lift will I have to worry about changes to the steering (pitman arm, etc.) and transfercase drop???

agriesemer I have 31x11.5 LTB swampers on my 2.5 and it dosent do very well with the stock gears except on straight aways not hills it also took some of the turning out of it and it rubs a little on the back when I go over a big bump and I trimmed the flares, but I would recommend no bigger than 31's and a 2or 3 in. lift should look pretty good

whiteyj I'm running 31's with a 2-1/2" Rubicon Express kit. Just tall enough to have some fun and still be a reasonable daily driver.

daddyjeep As far as lift goes, the possibilities are endless. The usual 4" kit is where most people start. Rubicon Express, Skyjacker, and some others make really nice kits. Quite a few guys here are running rough country lifts and all seem happy with them, these run a little cheaper than the first two mentioned. The 4" kit is only going to clear a 33" tire unless you add a little body lift or get out the sawzall and open up the wheel openings a bit. A 1" body lift and maybe trim the fenders enough for TJ flares and you should be able to fit 35's. Like Mr. Henderson said, all of this will require a gearing upgrade.

amerijeep You can go with 31s on your YJ, like bigjeeps buddy says. That's what I run on my stock-heighted YJ. However, you may need to adjust your bump stops a little. 31s on the YJ are going to take a little turning radius out of it. If I had to do it again, I would have gone with 30s again. When I had 30s on it, people actually thought I had a little lift on it. The 31s fill out the wheel well more and I have actually gotten comments from people about how it appears the Jeep sits lower even though it is slightly higher.

mrbigjeep you can normally fit 31's with no lift on a TJ but its gonna be tighter with less clearance on a YJ

khenderson running large tires on the 2.5 all boils down to gears. if you don't want to get into regearing, i probly wouldn't go past 31's with the 4-banger. even with the few mods i've done to help the power output, my 4 squirrels still don't have the power i wish they did. that being said, you can fit 31x10.50's without any lift......and save up for the engine swap and big plans later!!

jeepster newbie with a couple questions!

Alright so i bought a Completely stock 95' yj with the exception of new rims and tires. I have the 2.5 4 banger with the 5 speed. unfortunately i dont know as much about lifts as i wish i did, but im sure ill learn plently from you good folks out there. My questions is whats the biggest lift, and the biggest set of tires i should have with the 2.5L. i want to be able to cruise at a decent speed but the litte guy isnt the fastest thing in the world right now, i am also looking into a chevy conversion and throwing in a 350 eventually but it might take a bit for the money to build high should i go? What the best way to go about this for now? thanks in advance for all the help guys.
