That's a great buy. Dana 300's bring $200 and up in good condition.

CJ-John I know where I can get the T5 and D300 for about $150. I'd better pick them up before they are gone. If I don't use them I can always sell them later. Thanks

No. The T5 is the best option. Main reason if you can actually use a factory bellhousing. Sure a NV3500 is a better tranny but not sure about everything else. You run in having to buy adapters to run the dana 300 to keep the front output on the correct side.

I love mine. Sure they are weaker and will not last. Mine has only been on there about 8 years. I keep a spare.

That list may sound super intense but if you hunt parts you could come out total swap around $1000. Tranny and D300 will be around $600. $200 for clutch and $200 for driveshaft mods. It is not necessary to buy tom wood shafts like I did.

Dempsey Boy I wish it was. You are correct that you will need a bellhousing, t5 and need a Dana 300.
You will have to piece together your clutch setup using parts from both a 6 cyl and v8. It has been too long for me to remember exactly what.
You will also have to modify crossmember. The later style is different since the tranny is longer. I flipped mine around and slotted some holes.
Also you will need to modify both front and rear driveshafts.
I think the clutch linkage is pretty much a direct swap.

T5 in place of T18

Is the T5 a direct swap for a T18? I know they are not as strong, but I'm just thinking of that 5th gear. Mine now for all but off roading is a 3 speed as it has the granny low 1st. gear. And No I don't think I'll part with my T18 it will go in the corner for a backup. and if the T5 comes with a Dana 300 is that a direct swap for my Dana 20? Thanks
