Yes, this is the Max Care. They said there are four levels of extended warranty and that they only deal with the mnost comprehensive. I'm kind of blown away that you got this for $1K. What was the "retail" and how long ago was this?
Is there not a standard retail price as they said which was being discounted 1.2 to 1.4K? I am seriously thinking about the lifetime Max Care extended for $2,580.

I think it stems from off roading. I heard the same thing before I got my Jeep. "If you get a Jeep, you better learn to wrench!"
Of course, Jeep owners tend to push their vehicles to the limit when off pavement, and inevitably, something will break. So I'm thinking this is where the perception that reliability is less on Jeeps. It's not uncommon for someone to get tires that are too large, and neglect to beef up the axles, or get new driveshafts for whatever lift they got. Then these things break, and it seems like the Jeep is unreliable. Also, cheap upgrades from companies like Rough Country, lead to broken things, and Jeeps on the side of the road.
Even when on the road, someone may have taken their Jeep and beat the crap out of it off road over the weekend and a damaged component gives way on the commute the next week. People might think, another Jeep broken down....
But, I assure you, as many Jeep owners here will verify, that a properly maintained, properly modified Jeep, will last you ages. But, cutting corners and pushing the limits on not so great components will lead to an increased failure rate. This isn't the fault of Jeep, but of cheap modifications. I have no doubt that a Jeep left in stock form will give you 100K miles without a single issue.

I'll back that engine all day long over the others and I'm not alone. Attending the APHA shows 7/10 of the trucks were Dodge. That's what Ford did to themselves getting rid of the 7.3.

Hi all, first post hese since buying a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara Altitude Saturday.
The warranty is now 3/36. The dealer said Jeep is incentivizing extended warranties now and a 7/70 costs about $2K and lifetime ~$2.5K. These are discounted about $1K this month only.
I usually don't go for extended warranties but since we ill likely keep this Jeep for a long time am giving it serious consideration.
It would be great to get some feedback from the forum on this...

|HK_Runner||Consumer Reports will give you some great info. I do not like any Chrysler product except the Wrangler, but I really like the Wrangler due to its off-road abilities and general toughness. Reliability of it- I do not expect it to be anything like my Honda, Toyotas, or my Subaru. I do expect it to be average though. Trust me- I am very leery of American vehicles. I see more Jeep/Chrysler problems in general when talking to people at work too. The couple I owned were horrible too. However, I think the Wrangler may be one of the most reliable Chryslers made. If this paranoid guy bought a Wrangler, I think you should too.|

The problems you mention are all certain years. Consumer reports, etc would be best place to get exact info there.
Of course people here are gonna defend them. I can tell you that I've bought multiple ones. And out of all of them put together I've had less problems than my 6.0 powerstroke (gag) did on its own. So you can hear bad things about anything if you look for it.

I've yet to own a vehicle that didn't have to be recalled at least twice for some reason or another. Add to that things that broke down while under warranty which weren't recalled and you can see where I'm going. And I've owned 3 vehicles that were either new to production or had major revisions to engine/body style. As you can guess, there's a shake-down period where things unexpectedly pop up. It happens. Spend some time on various auto forums and you'll see.
If your 12 is under warranty, take a deep breath and chillax

|RhuntMT||Well its a Jeep thing, you either love them, or you don't. Owning a Jeep isn't about reliability. This is my 4th Jeep, reliability was never a concern ... If the rear end falls off tomorrow, I'll duct tape it back on!|

ive had mine for 3 weeks and havent had a hickup but my time is negligible
forums are great but you tend to only here about the bad stuff, go to any car forum and there are rants as high as the heavens of that specific forum IE BMW/Audi/GMC/ALL... im sure us forum folks only make up maybe 2% of the jeep population.

|bearman95||I have owned four jeeps over the years. First an 84 CJ 5, then a 92 Jeep Cherokee, then a 97 TJ and now a 12 JKU. Neither of them ever went back to the shop after i bought them, no issues what so ever. The dealer ship sent me a note the other day saying they had not heard from me since i made the purchase and about my JKU being due for service. I sent them an email saying i do my own oil changes and no other service is due at 2300 miles. They promptly replied if i need any warranty service to bring it to them. Hopefully i will never need that either but i do have a 6 year/100,000 mile warranty if i do.|

Jeep Wrangler (JK) Reliability?
I've never owned a Wrangler but have been considering purchasing one for a couple of years. One of the drawbacks for me is the [negative] reputation they seem to have around reliability. Now, I know this isn't exactly an unbiased forum so I don't expect anyone to rail against Wranglers as much as I've heard others do, but I would appreciate any objective input on this.
The general reliability concerns I heard expressed were around leaks (radiator, fuel line, etc.). Can anyone speak to this? Do the older models primarily suffer from quality issues? Is there a certain range that have experienced more issues than others? I do intend on going off-road with it, but nothing extreme (ie: rock crawling), and the vast majority of my driving would be on paved roads. How much are the reliability issues connected to how people drive them? What are some of the common long-term issues they face with road driving? Can anyone speak to the quality of the transmission in the 2012 models vs previous years?
Anything else worth mentioning about reliability would be appreciated. Thanks.
