but without wanting to dump a TON of money into mine - i gained the performance ability that i wanted to have fun and look damn good with 33's. all im saying is that for $300, im very happy. i WISH i had the money to do a 4" lift with long arms and adjustable trackbar and all the bells and whitles, but its not realistic being that im a college kid. it all depends on your budget. lol
anyway, i expected some flack for the RC suggestion. im done hijacking this thread. i hope that cconroy21 will be happy with whatever he chooses.

All the RC 2.5" kit is is springs and shocks......crappy shocks and decent springs.
There's a lot more to suspension than that. If you want to be able to play hard during the weekends and drive to work on Monday, you've got to cater to the more important aspects of the suspension. Control arms and track bars--the items that locate and position the axles. If those use crappy parts, are of a poor design, or are poorly executed then the last thing you'll be worrying about is your stiff shocks or sagging springs.
Suspension needs to be viewed on a component basis. The term "lift kit" means absolutely nothing of value.

theres up and downs to all of them. my lift suits my needs. its just an option. of course when you research these things online theres always good reviews and terrible reviews. so spend what you can afford to and go wheel the hell out of it

|madkinstx||I have a Rough Country 2.5 x kit. Had it for about 2 months now. I have wheeled it really hard right along side of some jeeps with much more expensive lifts and have no complaints so far. Those other more expensive kits may last longer but they cost 2 to 3 times more so if I get some good years out if mine before I upgrade then I've more than got my money out of it. Most importantly I'm having a blast now with a very capable lift kit. Don't let lift kit snobs scar you away, get what you can afford, have fun and if you find it lacking down the road upgrade.|

I would go with the rough country, so when you change your setup later once your learn more, you won't have wasted as much money
If you want a cheap lift, then you can go rough country. My buddy Invert Chaos was really disapointed when he saw how much his springs have sagged compared to mine, however. Maybe he got a bad batch of the old springs, or maybe its just RC's quality control.
As far as the best setup, I really don't think any of us have the money for that right now, and if you do, start reading, because it will take you a while to know what your doing and to purchase and build it all. Do some reading on link suspension if your really gona dump money on expensive arms, you might as well change some things around while your spending money.

My best advice is Bds coils and savvy CA's with savvy fox resi's. Doesn't get much better than that.

im about to get flamed for this comment...but i have no problems with mine, so im just gonna say what i have and offer it as an idea here...
I have the RC 2.5" suspension lift. coils and shocks. love it. in my opinion its just as smooth or smoother than my stock shocks (maybe they were shot) but ive had no problems with it at all. all i did was swap the coils and shockas (and i did a Steering stabiliser while i was at it) ive got mine on 33's and it looks perfect to me. it has seen some mild offroading so far and works great - ill really be putting her to the test here this weekend though at the UNF trails.
good luck, and listen to these guys...thay usually know what they are talking about. the Zone combo lift isnt a bad deal...i sometimes think i shoulda saved a little mroe and gotten that...but ill probably just do a 1.25" BL and a 1" mml soon enough

Stock shocks from a JK are great. That's what we have on my wife's TJ and she loves it. You'll need to grind down the sleeve in the lower end of the rears and swap the bar pins from the fronts.
I wouldn't bother prettying up your coils. If you actually go off-road it will not take long before they're dirty again.

And do you think it would looj good if I spray painted the coil springs and put a gloss layer over them? Cause ill prolly get those coil spacers. I want an overall beefy stance and a good ride.|

Didn't mean to sound like such an ass about the RC lift. They're significantly cheaper for a very good reason. It will ride like a brick, as was mentioned early in this thread.
To give you an idea, my wife's Jeep is in the process of getting the following:
[Done] 2" budget boost ($100) which includes 2" spacers and extended bumpstops
[Done] Stock JK shocks (free from my JK) (good for 3" lift on TJ while retaining smooth ride)
1998 Grand Cherokee with V8 front springs (3" lift on TJ- remove front spacers with these)
1995 Wrangler (YJ) brake lines (a couple inches longer than stock without breaking bank)
[Done] Adjustable front lower control arms (can't remember brand, but got a good deal)
[Done] 1.5" wheel spacers ($200) (not necessary if you have aftermarket wheels)
JKS Quicker Disconnects in front and used (unknown brand) extended swaybar links in rear
33x10.50-15 BFG KM-2 tires (great on street and trails while remaining narrow to keep rotational weight down)

The stock suspension is pretty flexy so if all you need is clearance for 33s on a budget, get a 2" budget boost, a 1.25" body lift, and throw in the 1" motor mount lift while you're at it.

2.5" is about where I believe the difference is still bearable and anything over that really needs adjustable to reposition the axles. This is from an esthetic point of view. From a performance point you can't beat an adjustable control arm with Johnny joints at both ends, but for a daily driver that sees mild to moderate offroading the stock arms will work .
