rjacobs I had binding and clunking in my front end on tight turns. I took my front end apart to do axle seals and figured out the reason. Drivers side unit bearing was basically new. Passenger side was basically the 110k mile original. Swapped a new one in and front end is tight again. I probably need to do u-joints as well, but thats another project for another day.

CJ1048 Bind in the t-case. Had the same problem a couple of months ago. Did you recently have the 4wd engaged? Run it in 4Lo in 1st and Reverse (slowly in straight line) in your driveway a couple of times, then check again in 2HI..

Jerry Bransford U-joints shouldn't have any movement/slop, yours do sound bad. Hopefully the Spicer u-joint you plan to install is the 5-760x.

Turns like it's in 4wd. But it's not! Ujoints?

OK I just noticed this the other day but it's becoming more prevalent. When turning the tires are kind of... jumpy like when you are in 4x4 on pavement.

I sat under the jeep and had my cousins pull 4x4 the lever and it is connected and functioning. The light is NOT on when driving and I don't think it's in 4 wheel drive at all.

So I'm thinking maybe the u-joints seized?

If I grab the yoke (as pictured) I can get just a tiny bit of movement and a tiny clunk.

The second picture (hard to see) one one of the 4 corners of the ujoint it seems like it's leaking just a little grease. The dirt that's there is a little 'wet' looking and if I wipe it off there's a good black smear. Anyways I believe these are suppose to be sealed so any grease here would be a sign of failure?

Anyways I have some spicer u joints that will be here tomorrow and will be putting those in this weekend. Definitely will be the biggest project I've undertaken so far!
