questions about nittos
looking to upgrade from my little 16' stock tires to a bigger off road but high way tire i was recommend to put nitto 285/70r17??? but i want to put 35s. now with 35 s and stock fenders what size lift would you guys say to put on??? i was told a 4'' just spacers from rough country?? so any thoughts on this matter would be great.

I ended up going with the toyos. 4 inch BDS short arm lift, 35" toyo open country M/T on 18" XD spys. I don't have any mods on the engine but I get around 11 mpg, big tip, use cruise control when you can! Almost 2K on my toyos and don't have any sign of wear

|2006tj||Im running 285/75R16 Terra Grapplers, as far as a quiet and smooth ride id give them an A+. But as for me im ready for a more aggressive look so might switch to a M/T.|

Problem with Nitto Tire rotation
Hey could use some intelligent opinions on this one. Have a low mileage 2008 jk. Put on 20" wheels and some 33" Nitto Trail Grapplers. Jeep has a 2" lift. The Nitto's were a little loud at first but after a couple of thousand miles they quieted down considerably. They only got loud after you hit about 55-60mph. Put 6k on them and I had Firestone rotate the tires.. front to back..back to front. The tires are so loud now. I'm talking at 25-30 mph they start to whine out. With the windows down its annoying as hell. I don't remember them being that loud at all when they were new. These tires have no cupping. Thinking about putting them back the way they were. Whats happening here ?

i'm gonna re-open this thread...beat a little life into it....
i have a 2013 Sahara on order and i'm looking for something a little more AT then the stockers...actually like the 275/65-18 size...stock height and about 1" wider then stock...
I wanna keep weight down as this will be my work vehicle and i do about 500 miles a week and have to go off pavement just about every day for work...not gonna be a heavy wheeler...
I'm looking at Nitto Terras, General Grabber AT2, and Copper AT3..
i had Toyo AT in the mix but in that size they are over 50# and a heavy ply tire..so i'm steering away..
i was at a tire shop today and they printed me out a spec on a Nitto TERRA 275/65-18 it had a 120s service rating, the guy said it was an "XL or extra load tire" whatever that means... but it ony wieghs about 2 pounds more then the stock 255 tires....

Just got some Nitto's installed and my initial impressions are all good. They ride smooth, balanced out easily, worst one took 6oz to balance. The noise from these tires so far isn't nearly as bad as all the reviews make them out to be.

As far as weight goes.. Nitto is one of the few companies that makes a P285/70-17. So that's an extremely lightweight 33" tire option for 17" wheels. Not many companies are making that.
The open tread blocks with sipes look like they'd tear through the mud and snow really well on the Terra Grappler. They are much more aggressive than most tires in their category.
The Terras are at the top of my list so far...still thinking about it.

|leftpedal||I just had 315/70/R17 Trail Grappler MT's installed on my 2012 JKU Sport with auto trans and 3.73 gears. Yeah they are heavy, but they really look awesome! The ride is great and surprisingly quiet for the style of tire. Best of all, I did not need to do any trimming when I installed them with MB72's. Not that I would go off road right now due to limited clearance, but it is fine until I get the lift installed later this month. Mileage went down a little, but not as much as I thought. And Nitto reports the tire is 34.61" tall, but after installing and putting a load on them, as well as running 27 lbs of pressure after doing the "chalk test", they came out to a true 33.75". I love the tire.|

|RUBINOT||My Terra Grapplers work great with 2012 Jeep JK Sport. Weight is not a problem. Nitto's only weigh a few pounds more and balance out better than most tires.|

|HK_Runner||They will differ slightly due to tread pattern, but Nitto is a brand of Toyo and both tires (Open Country MT and Trail Grappler) are very very similar. They are good tires actually...just too heavy to run with a V6- especially offroad. Very popular with the diesel and truck guys. I hear the quality of the tires is very high, and they rarely need much weight to balance.|

I'm new here so hope I am doing this right...... I have spent a lot of time looking at lots of posts on tire weights and the debate that follows, and trying to get all the info I can. Its hard to find Nitto info because it's not on their website and things change year to year on some of the tires they make. But I will say, they were very quick to get back to me when I sent an email via their website. I will post their response so you can see for yourself if you are doing the same research as I. But if you arent looking for 17" tires, I suggest emailing them and they really do respond quickly. So, heres what I know, based on 2012 data from Nitto:
Nitto Trail Grappler MT
285/70/R17- 67.24 lbs
295/70/R17- 70.55 lbs
315/70/R17- 76.06 lbs
All the other demensions are available on their website and seems to do a good job. Hope this helps anyone looking for this info.

|Dmactampa||I've had my Nitto Trail Grapplers, 35x12.50x17, mounted to ProComp 7036 wheels. These tires are heavy and will require an upgraded carrier for the spare. I was very surprised they are so quiet. 2000 miles in I'm very happy. I don't wheel much but I understand they are very capable. On road I've noticed a little rougher ride but can't be sure if it's the tires or the lift. Either way I really like them and feel they are one of the best looking options out there.|
