Alright, so I am back and am still stock! I have most not been home enough to do anything! I am ready to make a decision. I have been going back and forth on a 2.5 teraflex or the 2.5 max travel! I saw something about a 2.5 inch lift with a 1 inch body lift. is that advisable?
There is so much data to process...

I've read too many reports of the AEV equipment being very fragile. It can handle street driving and a beach run if you're careful, but after reading so much about things failing/bending/etc I'll never get anything AEV for my Jeep. They were a GREAT source on TJs and LJs, but the JK has picked up a series of manufacturers that far outbuild AEV in every aspect.
I'm running a Rock Krawler 3.5" suspension (was on 2.5" for six months) on my Jeep. Combined with Bilsteins, the RK system rides like a dream on the streets and is still very smooth on the occasional trail ride while taking an absolute beating on the rocks and begging for more. AEV and those who spend the money on the kit are going to tell you all about how much research and design goes into everything, but at the end of the day, AEV is "overfluffed" and eventually going to deflate. The RK system is seriously heavy duty, but that's not to say it's only for the hardcore rigs.
My JK only actually gets wheeled maybe once a month, so when I selected a system I went for one that had great reviews on street manners. At the same time, though, I wanted to ensure that it was going to hold up on the trails, and that's where I was reading too many negative reviews about the AEV systems (Specifically the dual sport) to even consider them as an option.

2013 Rubicon Unlimited build
I'm getting ready to order a new 2013 Rubicon Unlimited to replace my much beloved 2006 Rubicon Unlimited...it's been a great car but it's time to upgrade. My current Jeep has a 3" lift, 33" BFG Mud-Terrain tires and a 6 speed trans...though I Jeep with friends who have newer Jeeps with higher lifts and bigger tires, I've been able to get everywhere they get on the trails we run...sometimes I just make a bit more metal-on-rock noise!!!
Because of the historical connection with the Jeep factory folks, the engineering standards applied to the design work and the quality of manufacture, I'm at least considering having the AEV folks install their 3.5" DualSport RS Suspension w/Bilstein reservoir shocks, their high-steer kit and 35" tires on my new ride. My intended use for this vehicle would be the same as my old Jeep...some highway miles and trails in the 6-7 range on the Moab rating scale. I really don't want a "pure" off-road suspension because I want to retain some decent highway manners.
There are lots of after-market suspensions available for the JKs but many of them seem to be the assembly of a combination of parts and components which may, or may not, be designed and well engineered to work together as a complete suspension system. It's my understanding that AEV only builds suspension systems for Jeeps and that many of their staff engineers are ex-Jeep engineers who understand the basic Jeep suspension pretty well. I've never had any first hand experience with any AEV products but I've spoken to other folks who have had good experiences with their systems.
Haven't yet made a final decision...any thoughts???

I know the drill dude! Jeep is almost done, though. If I decide I want to go any bigger, though, I'm doing a tubed out truggy on 37s.
To clarify, I don't accept a challenge for the sake of competition- I'm out there to have fun with everyone else. If I accept a challenge it's because I want to see if I'm built and skilled enough to do it. I know my limits but if something's close I'll try it.

Worst case, you spent $130 and now you have spacers to keep it balanced as you go. Or sell it for $75 and let someone else take their time deciding.
I donated mine to my uncle because he's a teacher and can't afford big lift and tires, so it helps him out at least a little bit when he's off-roading.

|Frshmt||Get the Teraflex kit. It's a great starter stance and will help you go places NOW while you consider whether you really want to go all in. Just look at my sig- not everything is even listed and my Jeep is nine months old. It can get out of hand fast.|

2. Winches can be done on a stock bumper. I just hadn't thought about that. We have a local who actually tucked his winch between the framerails and has it coming through a hole he cut in the stock bumper. SUPER PIMP
3. The RK lift is well over 10x the cost of the level lift and destroys any budget-minded aspect. I LOVE my RK lift and I would never advise against it, but thanks to constantly going one step bigger, my rig is now a very complex conglomeration of parts. I like things to be as simple as possible.

1) Why 34" vs the more commonly mentioned 35 or 33?
2) No winch?
3) level lift vs the RK Max travel? isn't that giving up a lot?

I'm going to be 100% honest with you as long as you promise not to tell my wife…
I kinda wish I had kept it simple. To do it all again for primary DD use, I'd go:
34" tire on 15" wheel(metrics can usually get you close)
2" longer shocks (NOT Procomps- OME or Bilstein all the way)
EVO Protec Skids
Stubby the stock front bumper (or not)
Simplest rear bumper I could find with tow points (or keep stock with the hook)
It was incredibly capable, but I wanted to run with the big dogs. I LOVE how capable it is now, I just wish I had the ability to turn down a challenge once in a while.

I ran the Teraflex kit for probably four months before I installed the RK lift. It's an awesome way to get at least a little lift NOW, then keep the spacers so you can lift front/rear an inch as needed to keep the Jeep level with different bumpers, winch, etc.
My front bumper alone is well over 100#, plus a winch, so I had to have a 1" front spacer on top of my RK lift to keep it level. That's abnormal- most people sit almost perfectly level with RK kits. My bumper is not for the faint of heart.
Level lift, 2" longer shocks, and 34x10.50-15 LTBs:
On flat ground (man, it was such a simple Jeep back then…):
Same level kit but with an extra 1" spacer up front because of bumper:
RK 2.5" Max Travel with 1" spacer up front, again, because of bumper:

I say get the level kit. It'll get you lifted a bit NOW, you can still run your stock shocks, and you never know- it may be enough to make you happy!

I do all my own wrenching, yes. It's very simple. Just look at the Rock Krawler kit components then climb under your Jeep and you'll easily identify everything. The only thing I'd suggest before you start the install is to grab two wrenches from a pawn shop:
That's not 1.5", not a single 1/2" wrench. Same for the slightly smaller one. I got both of mine for $17
The big one is for the LCA jam nuts and the smaller big one is for the trackbar jam nuts. They provide you with the lengths you need to set everything up properly for your height.

the teraflex leveling kit gives you 1" in the back and 2" in the front to level out the factory rake. As other guys have said, they are just spacers that get mounted above your springs and new swaybar links. You can run 33's w/o rubbing on your fender flares. If you decide you decide that you want to do more challenging offroading, you can always upgrade to a proper lift.
Here's the catch.. depending on the bumper winch combo you choose, the add'l weight might require you to a proper lift. More weight = less MPG if that is a concern.

i've been eyeing that rock krawler 2.5" lift for a while now.. it seems like it has the best of both worlds... great on and offroad. with that being said.. if you're not looking for a ton of armor on your jeep, why not start with a leveling kit? I put the teraflex kit on mine and for $130 it is a perfect way to test the waters. I've been able to run some great trails and get a little additional clearance for a minimal investment.
re: drive shafts.. for what you are looking to do with your jeep and how high you're going to lift it, I don't really see a reason for you to swap them out.
