I was talking about the Road Armor bumper in the very first post. I've yet to see a RA bumper I thought was anything but overdone. Not overdone good, overdone bad.

Mike001 Its not the front its the rear. I had no problems for a while but I also wasn't driving it much. THen the other day I was cruising around some trails and they where muddy I don't flog it in the mud or anything cause it just breaks stuff so I stay of the stupid peddle but one of my tires spun the grabed and I think thats what did it even thought the rpms were only aroun 2k.

Mike001 By the way, I also have to agree that bumper you are talking about is WAY overpriced. A bit of a overdone busy-looking monstrosity too. [/QUOTE]

Front axleshaft u-joints nearly ALWAYS break solely as a result of the unhardened ears of the OE axleshaft being unable to hold onto them securely enough. The u-joints pull out of the one or two of the ears when under extreme stress and then spin around busting themselves up. Installing hardened axleshafts like from Warn, Superior Axle, or Alloy USA should prevent that from continuing to be a problem. Not applying the stupid-pedal except when the steering wheel is straight too will help, u-joints are at their weakest and there is more stress on the ears when the steering wheel is turned much either direction.

Jerry, tell us how you really feel.

Mike001 You have to hack up fenders with the BTF setup? Man I busted a u-joint again and I bet the damn spider gears did it, they're probably f**ked up again. Jerry Bransford I can only strongly suggest you talk with Zach who owns AtoZ Fabrication at http://www.atozfabrication.com/ Zach makes lots of bumper styles but I had him custom make a me a stubby bumper with a stinger and his work turned out beautifully. 44", stinger, built-in winch mount, through-welded tabs for shackles, and light tabs. Welding was superb, good enough that it's obviously air tight. I'll probably tap it for a hose fitting to use it for an additional air tank for my OBA system.

By the way, I also have to agree that bumper you are talking about is WAY overpriced. A bit of a overdone busy-looking monstrosity too.

Scout Wel I just checked the BTF website and it doesn't say anything about a specific front sway bar with their bumper. Maybe its changed?!?! I could swear I read that before when I was looking at bumpers.
05-12-2007 10:34 AM
Scout I have the PSC Trail Stinger with a Warn winch plate. If I remember correctly I think BTF recommends you run a Currie Anti-Rock or something similar with their bumper.

As far as tube fenders go? Of course I really like my FULL replacement fenders from T&T Customs. No need to hack up my OEM's. Just unbolt - bolt and go!
05-12-2007 10:12 AM
Mike001 Oh what kind of Stinger do you have Scout? I'm lookin at either Poison Spyder TrailStinger or BTF? And what about BTF tube fenders are they any good? Poison Spyders seem to look better but they are expensive as hell. Since I got a winch I figure I better put a new bumper so I only have to mount the winch once. And if I can get a reasonablt priced bumper I figured I could talk my wife into some tube fenders. Or just mount it to the stock bumper and regear.
05-12-2007 09:52 AM
Scout Home brew. It's really similar to the BTF.

Scout So far this one is my favorite. I sent them an email asking about light tabs, shackle mounts etc. I'll post up their response as soon as I get it.

mrbigjeep nice...is it a stinger?...no offense but i think the first bumper shown was a little over the top...i like this one too.
10-16-2006 06:30 PM
amerijeep I personally like that much better, scout.
10-16-2006 06:22 PM
Scout Ok, I came across another. This one is only $ 300 shipped. It doesn't have the radiator hoop but it is a nice looking bumper.

I think this might be on the front of my Jeep in the next couple of weeks.
10-15-2006 04:40 PM
Scout That's why I'll have to ditch the ARB. There's no way to run the tube fenders with an ARB.

Honestly I think tube fenders are one of the coolest things you can add to your Jeep. It's on the very top of my short list, as you can see.
10-15-2006 08:02 AM
ChilliRed Yea flat fenders are nasty! I know you said something about getting the bumper for the same price as an ARB. Im sad now because im afraid flat fenders wont look good with the ARB bumper since the bumper comes so flush with the current fenders... jus one of those times i didnt think far enough in advance to realize i was goin to want flat fenders

I went to Toys by Troy’s website, if you get the TBT 4006 FF the price on it is:

Front bumper: $ 580.80
Light mounts: $ 47.69
Winch plate: $ 163.90

Total: $ 792.39

That’s actually more than the Road Armor.

However, I do like the way it looks and I think it would work well with tube fenders. The only question is with the prices of the two almost the same, which one is better quality?
10-14-2006 09:14 AM
mrbigjeep yeah i like it a lot too! to be honest i really don't know what bumper it is! i got it off of the tubular bumper thread i told you about earlier...firstaidtj had posted it...i'll see if i can find out though! looks like a nice bumer. im sure it is a little more expensive than your average simple warn bumper but i still think it would be less expensive than the first one!

i'm workin at 11 which is in just a bit but i'll search about it later and let you know
