ygohome I trimmed mine it to the width of the frame when I had the stock bumper.

I still occaisionally catch my stubby bumper on rocks still. Less bumper is good for rock crawling or when climbing things.

Jerry Bransford Short stubby bumpers are so they don't block the front of the tires which gives you a much steeper (better) approach angle. Plus they're usually lighter as well. I kept nailing the front of my 58" bumpers with rocks until I went to a 44" stubby bumper. Not many actually need a stubby bumper though.

Front Bumper Length

Is the only advantage to a shorter front bumper that your tires can engage an obstacle (read Mazda Miata) rather then your bumper? My Jeep is my dd, soooo, I imagine that a longer bumper is better so the front suspension does not get messed up if I hit another car with the corner of the Jeep. On the other hand, the shorter bumper might help me run over all these little sports cars in Atlanta.

Any advantages/disadvantages on the front bumper length? 48"? 54"?
